i dont look at the relation between the two cards to determine balance, usually one is just better than the other in some way.  nova/sn generate more net quanta, the immos generate more net quanta.  5-10 just happens to be the boost from the upgrade.  and it will probably be lowered to 4-8 if i ever redo the cards.

if you want, you can compare it to rustler, whos quanta generation doubles :p

I have found that the upped environment is balanced in part through the balance of the unupped environment and a semi constant power relationship between unupped and upped. In other words, for both cards to be balanced the unupped and the upgrade need to be balanced. A balanced unupped but an imbalanced upgrade necessitates an unbalanced upped.

Leaf Dragon does not produce double the quanta Rustler would have produced.

I agree that upgraded somewhere around 8-10 is balanced. However I think even 5 is UP for the unupped because I estimate the cost to be equivalent to 5 quanta.
