I guess my issue with balancing this card is that I'm failing to see it in a case where only one is used.  I'm more used to seeing several copies being used...

Questions I often ask myself when designing cards:
"How can I abuse this mechanic?"
"How can I maximize this benefit?"
"How can I escape this cost?"

The last question is the applicable one in the case of disadvantages like Unstable. Do note that minimizing a cost is not escaping a cost. The question is about how can one cheat to not pay a cost and therefore how to close or punish such exploits.

Unfortunately, there isn't much of a niche that I can fit it into without bringing up past imbalances or simply treading on other :aether attack niches.

I'm thinking of boosting Unstable to offset this.

Cards are made for player use, not as AI counters.  If this ever were to be implemented, the AI would be modified that it controlled the rate at which Energy Wyrms were played until it reached certain qualifications.

I'm trying to avoid it being to Psion.  My original idea for this had been mass damage on a frail creature.  Unstable was meant to offset the use of multiple, but then again, it has been pointed out one could just be splashed in.

i just realized something, is the entire purpose of this card to be used with a reflecting shield? i dont like the forced combo, but i have a suggestion.
when energy worm is destroyed both player take 5 damage. that way it is not a forced combo, but still deals 10 damage with mirror shield.
while writing this  i just realized something that everyone might have been confused about. does energy worm deal spell damage, or is it unstable that does? maybe this isnt like psion at all and i just got confused.

That makes it worse. Not that it's not pretty UP right now. It forces combos and steps on other cards.
