Semi-vanilla with an easter egg. Originally started out as 'Dusk Bat', and evolved into this. The balance might be off but I'm satisfied.

Upgraded can have 3 attack to balance against the cost if ability is not used.

If the cost of the upgraded was dropped to 1 :darkness, would 2|4 (or even 2|5?) be justifiable? Or, in your opinion, would you go with the suggested 3|4 for 2 :darkness?

This feature isn't exactly hidden, but I see where you were going with the idea. It's similar to Mummy and Skeleton*, but the ability is clearly too explicit to be classified as an Easter Egg, at least in my opinion.

I would still go with 3|4 for 2 :darkness. The idea is reducing the magnitude of the chaos seed effect so it is inline with the change created.
