NOTES:
A new twist on growth. It gains the attack (and defense for the upped) just before it attacks. For the upped a creature on the field has to already be damaged for it to survive.

Multiple of theese can combo well with Voodoo Doll. I balanced this with Vulture, Fire Spirit, and Parasite.

This card is airborne.

Nope, X = 1, because only one creature on the field has taken damage.

I'm not sure if the game can even remember which and how many creatures have taken damage. A phrasing like 'number of creatures on the field with less than full HP' would work and is functionally the same, minus the intervention of a healing creature, like Guardian Angel.

However, I don't think either phrasing allows a Soul to retain bonuses from creatures that are damaged and then die. Maybe something like ' :darkness: Deal 1 damage to target creature and gain +1|+0' works. Might not be what you want to go for, though.

Tested this in trainer with Sparks and Luceferin.
Before - 4 Creatures, 1 BL, 4 :light , all light-generating.
After - 3 Creatures, 0 BL, 8 :light , all light-generating.

Conclusion - abilities trigger prior to death. Dissolute Soul would buff itself prior to dying and thus not die.

I also agree with Wizardcat on the reword to 'number of creatures on the field with less than full HP', since it makes it easier for the game to track.

Ah, okay...I misread the ability...and my mind decided to play games.  See, I figured that it'd be easier if the X was "number of creatures CS|DS has damaged", then jumped to "but it can't damage anything on first turn."  And of course, my mind did all this without reality knocking on the door and saying "but that's not how it works."  Yeah, don't mind me.

It takes into account creatures damaged before the creature was played, and the effect takes place before the attack. See Swarm.

I disagree. The game can keep track of the full HP and current of HP of all creatures. The game just needs to be able to check all creatures currently on the field and check if full HP =! current HP, then change stats accordingly.

And, the way I see it, if a creature has taken damage and has been healed fully, it has not 'taken damage' because it's full HP equals it's current. It is also not meant to check creatures that have died (i.e. no longer on the field)

Almost makes me wish Malignant Cells had 2 HP.

:death / :air / :darkness trio, with Aflatoxin, Thunderstorm, and Sky Blitz's powered by towers, with DS powered by Mark.

Somehow, we need a card that raises HP for ALL creatures...
