Yeah. It's a friggin' card game. It doesn't have to make perfect sense.
Well, using that logic I could make a Magic Cookie that turns into an Elephant! Or a Giant Pillow that generates :aether during full moon.

Sure it's a game, but I like it when there's some kind of logic behind the ideas.
Okay scared, try this.

Fire + Water = Steam

Steam = Form of Air

Air = +1 Air Quantum

+1 Air Quantum = The same effect of a pillar.

So together:

F+W=S=FoA=AQ²=PE

Upgraded:

F+W²=S²=FoA²=AQ²=TE

Hows that logic sound to ya?

Both versions of the card art say that Boil creates a tower, unupped should be pillar, no?

Both ideas seem rather complex in my opinion. The idea of a counter is good though, as in making it have 6 charges to use the ability.
Well, you should have a set amount of water in there to boil and convert into 'steam'. Unless the boiling pot/spring is constantly being filled up with water, then I say that adding a counter will help prevent someone from playing multiples of these cards down and then just spamming away to generate a whole new set of pillars. ^^;

As to the first idea, well the idea is to still have fire quanta :). Taking away an entire stack of fire pillars to make them generate air just doesn't sound ideal to me. Unless I'm not understanding you. And keep in mind that with the upped version you get a 1 quanta bonus each time you use the ability.
Okay, that I'm okay with - I guess I was wondering whether or not you wanted to have the card just convert some :fire into :air quanta, or have it constantly 'boiling' (converting quanta). With that clarification, I suppose this would work well into some odd duo/trio decks, or even some decks involving the nymphs. O.o

I did add a counter, based on that exact logic. I'm thinking about lowering it to 4 or 5 charges though.

Oops! ^^; Totally missed that change.

Lowering it to 5 sounds good, considering that if you have one Boiling Spring out, you'll be able to produce towers which should have a total of (5+1+2+3+4+5) 20 :air quanta assuming you don't spend the air quanta on anything and use Boil every turn.

with the card cost being so cheap you might want to make it 3 charges or maybe

Enters play with 2 counters

Asorbe  :fire Generate 1 wind pillar remove a counter.

 :water :water :water  :add a counter.

just a thought

Yeah, I was going to say that too, except...
