Real life inspiration: Biofilm on Wikipedia,Endotoxin on Wikipedia
Biofilms are created by colonies of microscopic cells that secrete various substances to help them survive, attach to surfaces, etc. Each individual cell is then strengthened by the others and tend to be extremely difficult to remove (swarm and +1/+0). In many cases, the cells will have toxic substances inside them called endotoxins that get released when the cells die.

I'm open to suggestions on alternate mechanics here, but malignant cells seem to be the best way to me since they are already in the game and behave very much like a rapidly spreading bacterial funk should.

By "Slots next to cells give +1|+1" I mean that any creature in a slot next to a malignant cell will get +1|+1 as long as biofilm remains in play. This is a one shot effect and will not stack due to multiple adjacent cells or multiple biofilms.
By "dying cells poison opponent" I mean that if any malignant cell dies while biofilm is up, the opposing player will get +1 poison status.

Swarm may be a bit much since this already generates Cells every turn.

I think you're probably right. But I do want cells to benefit from other nearby cells somehow... any ideas?

Well, giving +1 per adjacent still makes it impervious to most mass CC.  That's the problem I felt with Swarm, since it'd need some counter.  Maybe have them game +2 | +0 if there is adjacent Cell rather than giving them +1 from the card?

Well, on another note, how about having it make all creatures poisonous (e.g. coating your creatures with biofilm)?  So it's not just restricted to your cells.

Also, when your creature slots are full, will it still absorb :death ?

Well, having a 7|1 creature that spawns even more could be troublesome if it's +1|0 for each adjacent cell...

If it gets to that point, they are probably already dead, but good point. I guess just +2/0 or +3/0 for having AN adjacent cell, and nothing further.

How about making it a creature like this?

The upped version will read:
"Colony: Absorbs :death and creates a malignant cell each turn. Adjacent cells get +1|+2. Dying cells poison opponent"

Ya, me too, but I just cant make it fit... :( As a creature I can use the "adjacent cells" mechanic with fewer words. If you can help get it to work as a permanent though that would be awesome.
