NOTES:
A different take on the whole 'copy' aspect : unlike Aether, Darkness copies a target but leaves a trace of it's own form. It also allows the copy to remain a powerful beatstick akin to Ghost of the Past and Seraph.

If there are no creatures to copy Doppelgänger can't be played. Like Parallel Universe it will copy all other aspects of the creature including status effects like Poison, so be careful of what you copy.

Minor Vampire  11 :darkness + 2 cards = 8 Vampire damage per turn
Otyugh   5 :gravity + 8 :darkness + 2 cards + 2 :gravity per turn = 6 damage per turn + 2 devours per turn (5hp & 9hp)

As an additional sidenote to the already stated combos: Blessing + Otyugh will pretty much control the field the exact same way for 5 :underworld less. Vampire + Doppelganger is an effective in-element combo but it costs 1 :darkness + 1 card more to give 8 Vampire damage as opposed to 10 normal damage.

Using Doppelganger on a mutant gets you the normal copy of the creature.
