Well, I was seeing this more as an additional CC of sorts.
Ah, so you are catapulting your opponent's creatures at yourself. In that case it is an expensive Shockwave.

Afterburner + Freeze = 4 :fire + 1 :water + 2 cards -> Instant Kill
Shockwave + Freeze = 1 :air + 1 :water + 2 cards -> Instant Kill
Not trying to be nit picky, but
Afterburner + Freeze = 4 :fire + 1 :water + 2 cards -> Instant Kill
Won't be possible, at least not with afterburner as it is now. Immaterial dispels the freeze buff, so assuming the creature doesn't die till its owner's turn ends, it would still attack.
However your point is still valid, but can only be combined with stun mechanic, not freeze:
Afterburner + Basalisk Blood = 4 :fire + 2 :earth + 2 cards -> Instant Kill
because stun is not affected by immaterial if I recall correctly.
Alternately, guard becomes very powerful as it too causes stun mechanics.
Perhaps the nastiest ones though are:
Sundial + Afterburner spam -> Mass CC.
Or Procrastination + Afterburner -> Mass CC

I don't think fire needs an extra CC. But I do like the extra utility it gives to the stun mechanic.
Whether the glass is half full or half empty is a moot point. It is always filled to the brim. It is only a matter of by what. The real question is: What fills you?
If your zombie plan is
kill -9 `ps l | awk '{print $2" "$3" "$9}' | grep "Z" | awk '{printf("%s ",$2)}'`

-snip-
[paraphrase]
it is even weaker than shockwave when used as CC because it needs to be combined with the usually more expensive Delay rather than Freeze.
[/paraphrase]
So Catapult is a better source of additional damage and Shockwave is better CC.

Interesting card. There aren't really any other cards like this in Elements: it's a one-hit aggressive spell. Kinda makes me think you've played Magic the Gathering... :3

Having read the other comments, it occurs to me this is actually very similar in principle to Rage Potion.
Both can be used to kill opponents creatures.
Both can also be used to buff your attack.
They cost very similar amounts.
And both work well (for the purposes of buffing your attack) with high HP cards (so neither particularly in a mono-fire deck).

I do like the idea of it, but I think it has two main applications which have already had holes poked in them:
1 - CC
2 - Add damage

The problems are:
1 - Fire has plenty of CC already.
2 - Catapult does as good a job, + frozen/poisoned bonuses.
     Also if you used this in an Earth combo, Basilisk Blood would be a lame way to add HP, because obviously you'd be stuck waiting 6 turns before using your Afterburn for it to attack.
     On top of that, Earth/Fire is overplayed anyway :P

I still like it though. Inspires ideas like "Target Critter gets a new ability: Eat one of your own men, he gets +3/+3!" =)
