I think the main lesson here is that I shouldn't try to go through all the cards like that when it's 3 am and I haven't slept in two days . . . it looks like I dismissed a couple cards that are at least deserving of a second look.

I'll at least give curator and duality a closer look, I may or may not change my votes. I am still pretty attached to SOP though, so that one at least isn't going to change . . .

I feel like some elements (  ) do not have clear opposites,

What? are opposites, while are opposites; this is so because of how the elements are paired in the game. For , there is Discord + Black Hole; for , there is Anubis.

Maybe I just need sleep . . . this still isn't making sense to me . . . what determines what a given element's opposite is? If it's synergy, then I think I could name at least one combo between any two elements.

As you can see in my previous post, I did misread the card on my first time through. I'll come back to this one when I'm more wakeful.

Entropy and gravity are clear opposites. Gravity makes things held together (law), entropy makes things falling apart (chaos).
Synergy is possible between opposing elements, the results are often destructive, or at least spectacular.
Just try to heat a rock and then pour water on it.

So, there may be no real definition for aether here, so you cannot claim it is not an opposite. For simplicity's sake, lets claim aether is 'timelessness'.
