Haha, I understand what you're saying. I was just being blunt, yet not in a totally serious way. But it would be a nice addition to the prizes if the winners (all 3) got a kick-start vote or two upon re-entering the Crucible. That way, people won't see the 3rd place the way I mentioned above. Just a thought~
Kick-start vote? O_o *confused* What does that mean?

I know what you mean though, but it's hard enough trying to come up with rewards that aren't overly opulent, because if they're too good, the idea of the competition fades away, as the award is the only thing that's focused on...

I do have an idea though, but it seems kind of terrible; perhaps something revolving around 'surviving the cut'.

Random interest though....

It says 3rd place is automatic resubmission to the Crucible right?

That doesn't mean we can't still go through the manual process of resubmission though?
Actually Eva, you can still resubmit these revised cards to the Crucible manually (via the 'Link Crucible Candidates' thread), but only after the competition is done. It's only that the top 3 card authors don't have to do that simple process, whereas everyone else will be required to (should they want to resubmit a revised archive idea). ;)

So don't worry. I won't be denying any cards.  ;D
That's what I thought. To me, it makes the 3rd prize a bit redundant though.....

Kick-start vote meaning when the card is being voted on in the Crucible, it will have a free extra vote added to it to increase its chances of moving onto Forge. Of course, the free vote would only last for one round of voting.

Regardless of what's being focused on, awards are in place to encourage people to compete. I'm pretty sure that at least 30% of the people who enter competitions do it at least partially for the rewards. With better rewards, the only possibility I see is more people entering, hungry for the prize. Competitors still have to work hard to actually win these prizes. (;

What's your idea? Regardless of how stupid it may seem, I'd love to hear it.

I agree with this idea. The card has already been approved on two levels by the time it gets to sent to the crucible, so an extra vote won't do any harm.

I disagree with this idea. If it gets 3rd place then it would already get votes. Why should 3rd place be made better than 1st? Why should competition cards get an advantage over equally good cards?
I say the advertisement in this thread provided by winning 3rd place is sufficient without being unfair.

If you'd read my post above, you'd see that I noted all 3 winners should get the kick-start vote, not only the 3rd place. Also, competitions have prizes and require guidelines. To accomplish such a feat deserves more than a simple submission acceptance, imo.

I see what you mean in terms of the 'kick-start' votes, but then that feels a bit off - how many votes 'should' they get then? Just 1? That doesn't seem like an improvement to the automatic submission process...

Anyway, my idea revolved around the '*' symbol you find in front of newly recent cards. Suppose they were more like 'extra' lives, so that they aren't considered for the archival process; if you got into 3rd place or higher, the card would then get two stars, or '**', meaning that it would survive TWO rounds of elimination in the Crucible, if it has the lowest number of votes for two rounds...

That might be a bit much though. Anyway, I'm thinking that I need to construct some sort of 'Legend' in the Crucible polls so that people understand what is up for transfer to the archive, what's a reused card idea, etc. ^^; Perhaps adding a '+' or '^' sign for each time a card idea has been reworked and resubmitted, to show the 'progress' of a mechanic and how it evolves from one to the next voting stages...

One extra vote can change a lot. My Antidote had 3 less votes than Big Bubble, the winning card in the Water Crucible. If I'd been any more proactive in advertising my idea, Antidote might have gone through instead of BB, seeing as it only needed 2 more votes.

The * idea would sound great, except for the fact that these are winning cards we're talking about. If they were good enough to be voted upon and win a competition, it isn't likely they'd be even close to archived for a long, long time.

I know the "kick-start vote" discussion has already reached closure, but I'd like to point out that the purpose of participating in a competition is to get the big, shiny, first-place trophy, not feel happy that you got a consolation prize ^^

Just a note, the voting closed about 2 minutes before the countdown said it did, and i was getting people to vote for it around the end, and they couldnt vote because it was locked, and i find the gap between the countdown and the poll ending to be somewhat trivial, but in that time, the winner could have been decided. I have a way to prove it if anybody wants it. But all things aside, good job to mormegil, and patch.
