I've also included my entry in the list. If it wins the prize will be passed down but it will allow the entrants to see how they matched up.
Please take the time to read them all. Even tho some of the work is not conventional a lot of effort has gone into the works and there is, in my opinion, some good stuff here.

Would it be too much to ask that you include vrt's superb haiku in the first post and the poll? You could make it such that, in the event of vrt's victory, the award would be passed down, like your entry. It doesn't seem right (to me, at any rate) to deny his poem a proper audience.

That aside, I liked Fudoshin's entry, as well as Gl1tch's. It was interesting how Fudoshin captured certain aspects of Elements in his poem.

Fudoshin's "Ki" was all haikus. In fact, a series of haikus is commonly used to make what is called a "haiku journey." (I'm pretty sure there is a Japanese word for this, but I don't remember it).

That being said, "Ki" was my favorite entry out of all of them. A lot of the entries had force rhyme (Gl1tch's included--it was metered for the most part, but went a little off in certain spots--although I really do commend him for the long story-poem [I guess you can call it an epic]). Fudoshin's entry also remained really true to traditional haikus in theme and form (nature theme, syllabic count).

If we do Haikus, we can do more then 1 right? It's really hard to fit 50 words into 17 syllables...

If you do Haiku then you will have to do multiple Stanza to get the 50 word limit.
Because Haiku is particularly of contrast, you may do descending form, ie each Haiku is a different contrast of moment occuring in sequential order rather than multiple stanza for the same contrast.

You could have used any form of Haikai and I even allowed descending from. A haiku is a verse from poem not something complete.
I thnk a Haku renga would have been great for this comp.
Also your entry had nothing to do with an elemental at all but just Otyugh a creature.
You also had no title and did not complete the 50 word requirement.

Gl1tch, I hope this doesn't sound offensive to you, but after reading your poem, I had to check other websites and online poems to ensure that you didn't copy and paste a famous poem while editing some words to include in-game cards. I never meant to underestimate you, but wow - that poem is pretty impressive, and my little poem doesn't seem to match up with the rest of everyone else. ^^;


...that said though, I'm surprised how very few people actually connected the world of elements into their poem. Some people did poems on False Gods, which was nice, but I think that the 3 I voted for actually encompassed everything about elements (the creatures, the powers, the environment, etc.). More specifically, the best three were the ones that followed these rules the best:

"Have the result in such a nature that a feeling of conflict, such that the game gives, is felt."
"If a cut screen was given in Elements the Game, the piece could be used as a presented literary for the game player."
