I voted for 1, 4, and 9, but 9 is def my favorite . I just like it mainly because it looks like it really could be a national geographic magazine offshoot .

Okay, you asked for it..

The text at the bottom left corner is kinda hard to see. And the text "Leaf Dragon" could be highlighted by using a different colours or text style. Though everything fits the NatGeo theme, it could use a little bit more colours to make it more interesting. Also, you could play around with the image and the border - example .

Nevertheless, your idea about the NatGeo theme is brilliant and that is why you've got my vote.

Who knows?  It isn't like it is going to be in the next few months, at least.  For now, just enjoy this competition and the amazing submissions that certain members of the community already entered.

Ooh, I like the example. That certainly would have been fun, unfortunately I have no idea how to do that. A solid chunk of the time making this was spent figuring out how to make pixlr do what I wanted it to do, so I stuck close to the actual Nat Geo magazine style. Wanted to keep it recognizable so I didn't play around too much, though I guess the golden rectangle was all I really needed. Next time, next time...

Glad that you like it. I'm not entirely familiar with pixlr, but I think with enough practice by playing around with overlapping layers and stuff I'm sure you can figure it out easily.

And if there is a next time, make sure you get to post it first before someone else take the NatGeo idea!

And xkelevra, you made me google "Shönen jump covers" just in case I see little to no resemblance, (and should I add the layout was made from scratch) but since it's a mainstream manga magazine, it's a huge compliment nonetheless!!

I voted mine, 2 (puffy D!!!!) and 4, because it shares a graphic language with the elements GUI.
I agree less is more, (up to a point)  but for 9 to be a real parody, some details i would've loved to see, were absent.
But the execution doesn't make SunnyGreens idea less awesome. :b
