Scouts division:The scouts are an expeditionary, mobile force, led by General Kalinuial. They venture far from base to survey unknown lands and to identify threats to humanity. If they are capable of taking down the threat they will engage immediately. Scouts are expert at reconnaissance tasks, and may be found hiding out in the wilderness for days at a time. They will also send soldiers back to base so data can be analyzed by intelligence. Some threats are best dealt with by infantry, alchemists, or commandos. The scouts move quickly on their horses, which are represented by
elite pegasus. When they need to move especially fast, horses can double their speed (dive). The scouts themselves are represented by
crusaders. Scouts are truly courageous as they do not know what threats they will stumble upon. The
morning glory represents their main choice of weaponry - swords.
Flying weapon represents scouts’ ability to combat while being airborne. They use gas powered devices
{unstable gas} to shoot cables hooks, which secure themselves in solid objects such as trees and buildings, and swing themselves from object to object. Because they move incredibly fast in the air, scouts can deal critical damage while airborne, which is represented by
Sky Blitz. The scouts also carry a very unusual power with them - the power of the titans. The titans are a creature they once battled that threatened humanity. Titans are humans transformed into powerful giants. The scouts have channeled this power and are maintained by a few soldiers. The cards
Titan and
Catapult represent the incredible damage that Titans are capable of delivering. The
massive dragon represents a very specific titan, larger than all other titans. The
elite charger represents a specific titan with the ability to punch through walls and shields with ease. The scouts have also learned to channel the power of light for combat. Specifically, they capture the energy of
rays of light in order to build a defensive asset - a
Hope shield.

Infantry and Alchemical divisions:Our infantry division comprises of soldiers with basic attack capabilities. They enter combat in large numbers. Our human infantry are represented by
graviton guards. We also utilize non-human soldiers with
abominations and
steel golems. These non-human soldiers are homunculi - experiments of alchemists to resurrect a soul into a empty (soulless) shell. Speaking of alchemists, these soldiers cast spells for various purposes. They cast
heavy armor to increas the durability of infantry troops. They cast
basilisk blood to petrify opponents. They cast
stone skin to increase the health of our troops overall. And, they cast
earthquake to devastate the physical bases of enemies. One of our best alchemists, Ed, can make a wide range of weapons from earth and casts
animate weapon on them. In fact, he can pretty much create any weapon from his imagination. We’ve provided a sample of stock weapons such as
swords and
hammers. The
pulverizer is a weapon that represents the pinnacle of collaboration between infantry and alchemists. Alchemists create the weapon from earth with a powerful destructive capability. One of our strongest infantry captains, Alphonse, wields pulverizers and destroys opponents' bases. A full list of weapons is available on a need to know basis. Although alchemists are capable of using many other spells, we’ve included just the common ones associated with our infantry and alchemical division. Other spells are kept at a need to know basis. You may have noticed that our infantry and alchemists have a special affinity with earth. It’s a material widely available and quite moldable.

Intelligence and Commando divisions:The intelligence and commando divisions function practically as one division and are often in contact with one another during operations. General Wyand leads the intelligence and commando divisions. This division includes full cyborg, partial-cyborg, human, and robotic troops. These divisions take on the most difficult, complex challenges. These operations range from capturing and interrogating spies to assassinating criminal masterminds. Have you ever seen the Elements arena hacked? The intelligence and commando divisions take on tasks such as hunting down these miserable hackers and restoring the arena to its healthy self. The intelligence division does a lot more then just analyze data. They use electronic means to support commandos, to disable enemies' electronic systems, and monitor combat sites with ingenious optical devices.
Precognition represents the ability to surveil using satellites, video, and other optical tools.
Discord represents the ability to manipulate the energy and vision of opponents. Opponents become disoriented and have difficulty making attacks.
Silence represents a type of cyber hacking, which can immobilize the opponent in different ways, such as taking away their vision, briefly. Our sector chief of intelligence, Aramaki, is our
Mindgate specialist. This card represents Aramaki’s ability to understand opponent’s plans and to create counter plans accordingly. Although Commandos can use some of the above abilities, their combat techniques are wider ranging. Commandos are responsible for more of the hand to hand combat in the field. The following cards represent these diverse combat abilities:
Dirk = the favorite weapons of one our agents, Paz, who was recruited from the Yakuza.
Supernova = quick way to power commandos’ skills
Unstoppable = represents the incredible strength and damage capability of cyborg soldiers
Steel golems = the look and sturdiness of cyborg soldiers
Explosion = one of our soldiers, Borma, is a bomb* and bomb_ disposal expert.
Cloak = commandos’ ability to become invisible and difficult to target in battle
Eagle’s eye = the favored weapon of our in-house sniper specialist, Saito. Our most talented commando, Major Kusanagi, is even more lethal with an Eagle's eye.
Electrocutor = commandos' ability to remove opponents' skills or physical abilities such as vision.
Crusader = represents one of our human soldiers, Togusa, who prefers to maintain himself as a full human although he could become “stronger” by accepting surgeries for replacing body parts with artificial parts. Togusa reminds us that human morals are very important in guiding our actions as soldiers.
Miracle = you’ll have to watch the shows, Ghost in the Shell SAC 1-2, in order to understand why this card is included in the deck
We make special note of a very unique tool in our intelligence/commando division - the Tachikoma - which are represented by
Phase spiders. These robotic creatures can speak, move, and perform many other functions. They support intelligence and commando soldiers in battle. Tachikomas arguably have intelligence themselves and build very close connections with their commando teammates, who often think of Tachikomas as comrades and not tools.
The following spoilers are for those that may wish to read about the thematic links behind our decks and the anime shows from which these decks are inspired. If you are not interested, please move on to the "How me Manage our Legion" sectionSpoiler for Thematic explanation for Scouts division links to the the show - Attack on Titan:
Thematic explanation for Attack on Titan:
Overview: Attack on Titan (AOT) is all about defending humanity against the existential threat called Titans. Titans are giant humanoid creatures that are very powerful and eat only humans. The main heroes of AOT are the Survey Corps - aka the “Scouts”. The scouts venture beyond their fortified cities to explore, survey land, reclaim land, and to eliminate Titan threats.
Crusaders: represent the scout soldiers. They are strong, brave, and full of integrity.
Elite Pegasi: represent the horses that the scouts ride. They are super fast and can outpace most Titans. Dive represents their “speed”.
Morning Glory: represents the swords of the scouts that are used to attack Titans.
Hope: The scouts are really the only hope that humanity has to combat the titans. More specifically, Eren Jaeger is the “hope of mankind”. As the troops are reminded of their mandate to protect humanity, their devotion to protecting mankind becomes more absolute.
Ray of Light: is mainly here for practical purposes (to pair with hope), but light is an important part of AOT. Light is typically required to “charge” the power of the titans.
Flying weapon: represents the scouts’ ability to combat while airborne. They use omni-directional mobility gear which is strapped to their bodies. The ODM gear shoot cables that hold firm in various surfaces such as buildings, trees, and even directly on the body of titans. The ODM gear allows soldiers move in various directions almost as if they were “flying”.
Unstable gas: is in the deck purely for representational purposes. It signifies the gas held in ODM gear which powers the cables.
Sky Blitz: represents the finishing or killing attack scout troops can do on Titans while airborne. They aim for the nape of the Titans neck to deal the finishing blow.
Titan: Represent the powerful titans, which are often seemingly invincible.
Trebuchet: has to representation purposes. One is that the garrison troops use cannons to attack titans. A second representation is that of the “slaying” of the titan. So, if you’ve sacrificed an airborne Titan, you’ve simulated its killing.
Massive Dragon: represents the colossal titan.
Elite Charger: represents the armored titan, who is so powerful he can “punch” through thick walls. This resonates well with charger’s momentum ability.
Spoiler for Thematic explanation for the infantry/alchemical divisions' links to the show - Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood:
Thematic explanation for Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Overview: Alchemy in Full Metal Alchemist is about equivalent exchange. Something must be given to get something. EtG also follows this rule. You must spend quanta in order to play something. Alchemist in FMA usually specialize in an element that they can ‘control’. Ed’s specialty is the earth. By clapping and putting his hands to the ground he can ‘use’ the earth to create things that are made out of the earth. Stone/Metal weapons, columns, he can repair buildings and create huge walls. He is exchanging the earth to create these. Alphonse, while an alchemist, is not nearly as skilled as Ed; but Al is an near immortal suit of metal armor so he is typically used as a defensive damage sponge and the muscle of the group typically choosing to use his fists rather than his alchemy.
Graviton Guard: Looks strikingly like Alphonse. A big hunk of armor. A great representation card. No skills as Al is not a great alchemist but more of the brute force of the group.
Heavy Armor: Ed can use earth to encase himself and other is stone. While BB is in here as the way he can encase enemies in stone, Heavy Armor would be its counterpart. Ed wouldn't want to put so much armor on his ally’s that they can move but rather just beef them up. Also, Al is literally a set of heavy armor
Basilisk blood: See above
Stone Skin: 2 of Eds limbs are made of metal prosthesis. While he has a person that can repair it, he can create a temporary prosthesis using stone. So if he’s injured, he can “heal” himself in a way.
Earth Quake: Ed can destroy buildings with his powers by creating columns of stone. While it's not a literal earthquake, it has the same effect. If pillars are actually structures like the name implies, there is no reason Ed wouldn't be able to destroy them.
Abominations: Abominations represent the Homunculi. A sort of empty shell that gets a soul attached to it. Infantry Homunculi are immortal and are able to regenerate themselves. They can be defeated by destroying the soul gem in their body.
Weapons: Many many times in the show, Ed creates a variety weapons out of the earth to use in battle. Anything from spears, to swords, to maces. Pretty much whatever his heart desires.
Flying Weapon: Allows Ed to give the weapons to his troops.
Spoiler for Thematic explanation for intelligence/commando divisions' links to the show - Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex:
Thematic explanation for GITS:
Dirk: One of the agents (Paz) uses a folding knife. He is rumored to have connection to the Yakuza - that would explain his love of knifes.
Supernova: It is a cyberpunk world, it surely has some more advanced power-generating method.
Discord: The team has several members who are cyberspace experts and able to manipulate their enemies. The main cyberspace is expert of the team is Ishikawa. Another explanation is that by spy missions they can physically deny specific (energy, material, supplies etc.) sources from these adversaries.
Unstoppable: Most of the members are partially or fully cyborgs. Just imagine several hundred pounds of metal-infused-flesh rushing towards you… maybe equipped with some equally brutal weapon.
Steel Golem: Mentioning cyborgs… you get it… Simply looking at specimens like Batou explains everything.
Explosion: Borma is an explosive weapons and bomb disposal specialist.
Improved Miracle: You have to watch both seasons of Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex, and you’ll understand. I do not wish to spoiler important events. Miracles do exist, especially when we least expect them.
Crusader: Togusa is the only true human of the team - in the physical sense. He has NO prosthetic additions to his body. He also has strong moral beliefs.
Eagle’s Eye: Sniping is something you cannot omit from modern warfare. The sniper expert of the team is Saito - but we must mention that The Major (Motoko Kusanagi) excelsat sniping evenbeyond him.
Precognition: Checking the possible moves of your enemy is important. One can do this by conducting spy mission, surveillance - using physical world methods or the cyberspace. Our sniper’s - Saito - cybernetic eye can even connect to high-tech satellites to perfect his shot.
Cloak: Both Motoko and the Tachikomas are able to use high-tech cloaking devices to hide themselves away partially from prying eyes.
Electrocutor: Taking “skills” (like vision) temporarily away from persons is possible. Sometimes even permanently.
Phase Recluse: The Tachikomas (think tanks with unique AI) are kinda looking and moving like spiders.
Mindgate: The leader of Section 9 is Daisuke Aramaki. A real strategist, very good at anticipating their opponents’s strategic moves. While Togusa is the only fully human member, Aramaki is the “2nd least prosthetized” member - having only one artificial part: a cyberbrain.
Silence: Manipulating cyberbrains is possible. You can hack someone’s vision, too. This means you can also render them speechless, or deny doing something which causes a major tactical drawback to them.
How we manage our Legion:
Food/LodgingScouts - they are generally on the move and only occasionally get to enjoy the fancy food and lodgings from the legion’s base camp. While on the move, they sustain themselves on a highly nutritious food called lembas bread. They can also sleep just about anywhere.
Infantry/Alchemists - tend to be located at base camps. Alchemists use spells such as gravity pull and basilisk blood to create quick, disposable barracks of stone and dirt. When the legion moves to different locations, these barracks can be destroyed and the land reshaped so no evidence of us being there exists.
Commandos/Intelligence - Cyborgs/half-cyborgs soldiers have special food. They eat special processed protein bars to provide nutrients for their remaining organic parts. Human troops eat from typical human fare. All of these items are easily purchased from stores and the legion tries to support local farmers, too, when possible.
TransportationThe scouts get around by horse. The legion maintains stables for the horses and they are incredibly well cared for. Our horses also have free will and choose to bond with scout soldiers. The infantry are masters at walking. The commandos use a wide variety of transportation to fit their specific campaigns. These transports include small ships, motorboats, helicopters, vans, and even retro sports cars such as “the Deathstalker”, “the Soul catcher”, and “the Oracle”.
HealthcareAh, we do not have an in-house medical system because such a system is incredibly complex and expensive. So, we outsource our healthcare needs. When our troops need to be healed or restored we send them to the “oasis”. This is a cutting edge medical recovery center that looks like a tropical resort. The Oasis is a partnership between
Water and
Life. Water provides the lush water for bathing, purification drugs, and plenty of nympho nurses. Life provides massive healing and restorative benefits.
Lost a limb in battle? No worries, the Oasis has plenty of mitosis in stock. An exception to healthcare is that the cyborgs of the commando units receive specialized in-house medical care, including cyber surgeries and the maintenance of cybernetic parts.
Cadet training and qualificationFew have the gall and fortitude to join our legion. The battles the legion fights are incredibly dangerous and intense. Recruits who think they have what it takes to join are subjected to rigorous training. Unfortunately, we will not reveal our training practices here. We will share that a cadet can only join one of the five divisions if they perform well in these five tasks:
Strength task: 113 push-ups within 5 minutes. After each push-up, an antlion will be placed on your back.
Agility task: complete a 1 mile obstacle course while dodging fire lances, ice bolts, Rain of Fire, and Thunder Storms. You may not use shards of freedom during this task.
Intelligence test: Timed paper exam. Example question - You have 30 sec. to answer: You have a Crusader (unupped). Your opponent is an Armagio (un-upped) with its gravity pull active. You are given 2x blessings, 3x shard of wisdoms, 1x Eternity, 1x Discord, 1x Morning Star, 1x Vampire Stiletto, and 1x Lobotomizer. (all unupped) You must defeat the Armiago this turn. You can only endow 1x weapon. Unlimited quanta. Which weapon do you endow?
Stamina task: You are facing the immortal (you know with miracles, stone skin, sundials, etc.). However, this immortal will also have eternity and a creature to rewind. In this task, you may or may not be given the tools to beat the immortal. The test proctors will watch to see how you respond to this task.
Courage task: Complete one of the following tasks
1. Pull a tooth from the mouth of a living Otyugh
2. Allow a Ghost of the Past to be nightmared into your mind for one hour straight
3. Use Improved Mutation on an enemy Photon.
Division placement: Depends upon training scores as well as cadet’s desires
Scouts - are typically well rounded but place the most value on courage, agility, and stamina
Infantry - are typically selected due to high scores in strength, stamina, and agility
Alchemists - are recruited based on high agility and intelligence scores
Intelligence officers - are obviously recruited based on high intelligence
Commandos - are typically above-average in all 5 categories and usually in the top 1% in at least one of the categories. Commandos are often selected for how well their abilities may complement a small, working team
Promotions: Generals Kalinuial and Wyand, and Sargent Master Walks, make recommendations of promotion to the
P.H.A.N.T.O.M Council. Council tends to give promotions to those that exhibit a strong will to serve others vs. individual accomplishments.
Compensation & Benefits1. All troops receive a stipend per rank and experience; its considered a very fair stipend considering the risks of the job
2. After successful completion of service, Alchemists will build solid earthen homes to discharged soldiers that desire one.
3. Free lifetime health and dental care
4. Unrestricted usage of the legion’s gym facilities
5. Unlimited streaming of anime
MoraleLife in the
P.H.A.N.T.O.M. Force can be quite tough, quite stressful. Troops are putting their lives on the line after all. To stay positive and to repel despair, central command uses three techniques to keep morale high:
Recognition: great deeds completed by any soldier are posted to the official
P.H.A.N.T.O.M. Force instagram. There’s also a monthly contest in which we honor the most commendable soldiers. Thought a comrade performed admirably in your recent operation? Be sure to tweet --
#phantomoftheoperationEntertainment: each week, central command invites the hottest entertainers to visit our troops. Recent guests include a super chill rock band, “The Stoned Dragons”, A group of dancers known as the “Naughty Nymphs”, and the exquisite acrobatic show of the “Catapulting Armagios”.
Food: Every Tuesday is free pasta Tuesday. If soldiers were in battle on a Tuesday and survived, they get a free bottle of wine or ale to go with the pasta.
Other detailsThere are in fact many more details to how our legion is managed. However, some of these details are considered need to know. If you have burning questions, please contact Generals Kalinuial and Wyand and Sargent Master Walks.
Do you think you have what it takes to join the P.H.A.N.T.O.M. Force legion? We are receiving applications currently for our upcoming campaign in Element's twelfth war.. Please apply here.
