WHOA lovely idea!

Time versus Aether can be a fight for control over dimensions, obviously ;) I don't have nearly enough graphic designing skill to do this, but I bet others would be able to do this with beautiful success. Good luck to yall!
Like the one's you and pupp have in the Master's dojo? :P

Time vs. Aether (this one makes least sense to me)
xD  Me too.  Living forever and time are enemies?  What?  And that whole anubis guy throws everything off.  Oh well =/

Unfortunately it also requires more loading for user and a lot more coding for me :) .. but maybe we could make something like that happen.

What about this?

Elements is about 1vs1 battle, right? So instead on having cards from only one element, we could have two "decks" fighting each other.

We could have 6 different backgrounds, and from these 6, one would be chosen by random.
I'm okay with the 6 background idea, but doubling the amount of cards in the header means having to shrink all the cards. And I'd have to find a new way to lay them out.

As for the coding, I don't know how familiar you are with css, but it could just be one image with fixed background positioning. The initial image would be larger, but the browser would cache it upon the first visit. You can also include php code in a css document, so you could write a function for choosing the random background and just call the php function in the css file. Even with 6 separate images you could include the url in the php function. Either way, it would be incredibly easy to code.

After removing those old ugly cards and seeing how nice and peaceful the background without any pictures is, we are definitely not going to that "battle of elements" I talked about earlier. The background needs to be simple.

I really like those images you did and it might be a good idea to test it out. If you have time, produce a beta image of one elements and we'll test it.

Couple of things:

1. The cards are too big. They need to be so that when a user "closes" the navigation, the card images won't go past that horizontal white line (as seen on my screen shot).

2. Card dimensions are wacky. I don't know if it was intended but they are not rectangle. I'd like them to look as realistic as possible so maybe that can be fixed?

3. That "angel dust" effect is awesome. That's definitely going to happen no matter whose idea will be chosen.

4. Three cards is probably a good number, although 5 could work too if the cards are made smaller. 50%+ of the cards should be new cards (for marketing purposes).

To everyone else.. this does not mean that this suggestion has been chosen. Competition is still on. Everyone is allowed to make beta images that we can then test. Just post them on this thread and I'll make it happen.

The earliest I can start devoting time to making the images is Monday.

I can play around with them and make them fit.

2. Card dimensions are wacky. I don't know if it was intended but they are not rectangle. I'd like them to look as realistic as possible so maybe that can be fixed?
The reason they are shaped like that is to make it look like they've been randomly "tossed" into the banner. As if someone were throwing a deck of cards and you captured a picture of it.

3. That "angel dust" effect is awesome. That's definitely going to happen no matter whose idea will be chosen.
I can provide a .psd file of it if anyone else wants it for their submissions.

4. Three cards is probably a good number, although 5 could work too if the cards are made smaller. 50%+ of the cards should be new cards (for marketing purposes).
Yeah you could even pick the cards if you wanted. Or we could pull some popular ones based on the discussions in the individual cards threads.

To everyone else.. this does not mean that this suggestion has been chosen. Competition is still on. Everyone is allowed to make beta images that we can then test. Just post them on this thread and I'll make it happen.

Haha, yes I know that the idea is to have this 3-D effect. :)

I didn't mean the cards have to be 2-D with all the opposing sides the same length. What I meant is that some of the sides are too wide.

For example the card on the left. The bottom and right sides are too wide, making it look unrealistic. On the middle card the right side needs to be longer, etc.

Here's a video of what I'm talking about:
You see the dimensions stay realistic as the card moves around.

I might roll with the clashing opposites idea if I find some time.. If can keep it in a small centered sphere-shape, it could actually work without cluttering the page. Hmm.
So long and thanks for all the fish!

One more thing.. if you go with a single or two elements fighting in the header, the element name(s) has to be visible. This is because it makes it easier for new visitors to understand what the image is about.

Light vs. Darkness or something..

Best way would be to maybe use transparency so that you can barely see it and the text doesn't look like a link.

It would be nice to have an exact measured size in which we are required to fit our images. Otherwise I'm just going to post what I have in the expanded forum header with profile information.
