A simple but effective deck with good CC and PC, The Inquisitor is the perfect example of Dark Ages. As in the real inquisiton, Aloysius will use everything in his power to find the simple truth: if you dare to challenge the False Gods then you're a heretic...and what you deserve is a long and terrible suffering to...death.

Main combos are given by voodoo dolls + eclipse/rage potion/liquid shadow, but you can die by Fahrenheit too...while Nightmare is a nice distraction to make all more difficult...
Fire Storm could make RoL/Hope useless vs this one, and I guess other FGs decks will have their problems…

As long as when somebody looks at your deck and description and they think "Oh yea, that is totally during the time of the Dark Ages," then it's fine.  Just remember that there are two more themes after this one, and if your deck that you have in mind doesn't quite match with this particular theme, it will maybe match perfectly with the next two.
Good. As you'll see below, my deck will TOTALLY fit in with the Dark Ages theme.

Erebus

Yep, it's a Mono-Dark deck. I made this mainly for thematic reasons, because I don't have the time or mood right now to mull over a strategy for hours. The description will come later. For now I'll tell you is that Erebus is the primordial Greek god of darkness. The Nymph in his deck is meant to represent Nyx, the goddess of the night, and Erebus's lover. Okay, now for the description:

Years have passed. The world has grown decadent and weak. Now Erebus, the Primordial God of Darkness, has awakened from his slumber. Seeing the pitiful state of the world before him, Erebus set out to reclaim his rightful place and end this age of chaos and profligacy.

Under his impenetrable cloak of shadows, Erebus effortlessly made his way into the throne room of the corrupt kingdom. Swords, arrows, and magical spells slid harmlessly off the Dark God's shield of dusk. With a single strike of his vampiric blade, Erebus slew the old and weak reigning monarch. The God of Darkness then claimed the throne as his own, and unleashed his legion of nightmarish creatures upon the world.

The sun darkened with an eclipse. Black serpentine dragons soared in the sky, wreaking terror and havoc among the resisting armies. Troops of blood-sucking vampires and hordes of soul-devouring familiar spirits ravaged the battlefield, utterly crushing any mortals foolish enough to oppose the Dark God. A few brave and powerful heroes fought back valiantly, but all hope was lost when the God of Darkness appeared before them personally, stealing their powers and draining their energies of life. Soon, kingdom after kingdom submitted to Erebus's terrifying power. With each conquest Erebus erected a massive tower of the darkest obsidian, signifying his dominance over the pathetic mortal plane.

Now, the world is shrouded in eternal darkness. Together with his lover and faithful lieutenant Nyx, the Goddess of the Night, Erebus rules the mortal world with an iron fist. It is no longer the age of decadence and anarchy. It is the Age of Darkness.

This is my entry to the FG design competition. I decided to make this entry a Mono deck, since we do not have any Mono FGs yet. Darkness is the most well-rounded of all elements, possessing damage, creature control, permanent control, quanta denial, creature buffing, self protection, and creature/permanent protection. This deck demonstrates Darkness's versatility by performing all these mentioned functions with a single element. His signature card is Cloak, and chaining them all can protect his creatures and permanents for 24 turns. Inside his Cloak he has Vampires and Dragons for offense, Pests for denial, Steal and Siphon Life for control, and a variety of other cards. This False God should be moderately challenging, not too weak but not too difficult either.
To be or not to be, I can do both at once. Go learn quantum mechanics, n00b.

I'm assuming you'll interpret it as a Darkness deck?  :)
Yep, it's a Mono-Dark deck.
I knew it!  :)

Anyway, remember to create a deck in the FG Proposal section.

6th Century AD:

You have been toiling in the fields all day, the tattered cloth peasant that you are. Exhausted you return to your humble shelter and lay down to rest. Your mind is unsettled and the lunar eclipse in the sky has left you fearful - of your dreams. Nightmares abound once your your eyelids close. The darkness is your enemy. You are exhausted but Insomnia tortures you for yet another night.

Each day when the light breaks you go to the fields again. But every day is like the next and it feels as though you are repeating the same sleepless night time and again. Insomnia has locked you into a never ending cycle of agony. You are stuck in the Dark Ages.

Thoughts on the deck:

This deck might be really hard if it gets a lock down on you early enough. However, since most people play rainbow versus False Gods, nightmare will not ruin you if the Insomnia takes too long to set up. In fact you may get a handful of your own pests competing in a quanta eating contest.

I think this would be really fun if nightmare helped you, but it would still be a challenging false god.

PS Sir Valimont inspired the name. Immediately this song came to mind.

As the intruder aproches, Pope Urban II calls for his folk to listen to his speech.
Standing on a podest, he looks over the gathered crowd: Cardinals kneeling in the first row, praying, mumbling and thanking god for his glory. Aristocrats behind them eagerly waiting for the popes mouth to open and giving them absolution. Smiths, Baker, Mothers, Childern, Thieves and all other commoners mixed together gathered. It was a huge crowd, all were talking, shouting, screaming and crying, making it a orchester of pure chaos.
Slowly, Urban pulled back his sleeves and raised his arms. In a matter of seconds it became silent. Urban assured that all attention was pointed at him by regarding each one of his listeners.
After clearing his throat, he began his speech with a strong, solid voice no one would expect from such an old man:
"Thank you all for gathering here. Sadly I must inform you that this is not a time of joy, we are being attacked by evil forces! - But fear not!"
He said, again looking at all the scared faces. Feeling the tension rise, he continued:
Quote from: wikipedia
"All who die by the way, whether by land or by sea, or in battle against the pagans, shall have immediate remission of sins. This I grant them through the power of God with which I am invested. O what a disgrace if such a despised and base race, which worships demons, should conquer a people which has the faith of omnipotent God and is made glorious with the name of Christ! With what reproaches will the Lord overwhelm us if you do not aid those who, with us, profess the Christian religion! Let those who have been accustomed unjustly to wage private warfare against the faithful now go against the infidels and end with victory this war which should have been begun long ago. Let those who for a long time, have been robbers, now become knights. Let those who have been fighting against their brothers and relatives now fight in a proper way against the barbarians. Let those who have been serving as mercenaries for small pay now obtain the eternal reward. Let those who have been wearing themselves out in both body and soul now work for a double honor. Behold! on this side will be the sorrowful and poor, on that, the rich; on this side, the enemies of the Lord, on that, his friends. Let those who go not put off the journey, but rent their lands and collect money for their expenses; and as soon as winter is over and spring comes, let them eagerly set out on the way with God as their guide."
With this, Urban lowered his arms, turned his back to his audiance and kneeled before the cross and prayed for the help of god.
His folks, assured to do the right thing prepared for battle.

Urban II fights with Crusaders, giving them random weapns depending on his drawing and Quanta production, so you never know exactly what you have to fight against from the beginning. Depending on Urbans' draw, you might get an easy fight or a quick beating.

His minions are solely protected by silence. If you don't ask questions, you can't get disapointed by the answer... n'stuff.

The big weakness of him is, that he has neither shields nor any way of healing himself. So a way to deal with him are bonewalls and poison, protected dim shields with thick skinned earth stuff, or simply .

Remedial

Remedial.

In the Dark Ages, nothing was safe. Rape, theft and murder were a constant danger. However, one village banded together to keep these problems out of their midst. These were once local farmers, craftsmen and housewives, living honest lives. However as time passed, and magicks came upon the land they descended into darkness, secrets, deception. But now, banded together, these abilities which had plagued chaos onto the land, mixed with the natural remedies and skills from their honest times, were able to save them.

Historians have found the remains of this village, and today, I present to you their secrets.
Code: [Select]
77c 77i 77i 77j 77j 77l 77l 78q 78q 78q 78q 78q 7dk 7dk 7dm 7dm 7do 7dr 7dr 7dr 7f2 7f2 7f2 7f2 7f2 7ta 7te 7te 7te 7tf 7tf 7tf 7tf 7tf 7tf 7tg 7tg 7tg 7ti 7ti
The villagers never believed in one indestructable force. Still resourceful and cunning, they always had many strategies, always able to adapt to whatever evils the land brought towards them.
Gargoyles were the stregnth of their lines. The men crafted them, and granted them the power to stregnthem themselves. They could be given stregnth, and made vampiric using brews and extracts from fallen and slayed beasts.
But while the men were fighting and preparing, the women were also working. They had learnt the dark magic of voodoo, and were able to hurt their opponent from behind their own lines. They could use the extract of basilisk to delay them, and to allow for more punishment. If forces were low, they could fuel their anger, and create monsters the enemy would not dare attack. While things were being prepared, cloaks could be cast over the top of the army, hiding their true intentions until their army was unsurmountable.
These people had also learnt magicks of their own, able to inflict earthquakes upon their opponents structures, and protect their own artifacts from any harm, Including the strongest shield available to man, and the ability to cast night during the brightest day. Sometimes, they were even able to make fire fall from the sky, to terrorise and destroy all hope of their oponents.
And if all went wrong, from their safe spot in the towers, the women could prepare, nurture, and then cast upon flames, to steal the last breath from inside the enemies mouth.

Perhaps slow for their time, perhaps not fully accepting the introduction of magick, these small villagers had learnt their lesson, and certainly tought the rest of the land one. And remedial as they were, their remedies shall never be forgotten.

Nobody dares to defy me; even the dragons are my slaves. With these beasts I wreak havoc and terror on villages. Pandemonium is all around me. The dragon's firey breath will destroy any weapons used against me; they will explode in a ball of fire. I am the King Of the Dark Ages. The King of Dragons. I am Draco.
Now I'm not too sure about you, but when I read "Dark Ages" I immediately think of the Medieval times and the folklore that comes with it, namely Dragons. Which is how this deck came to be. Basically you have all of the elemental dragons (sans sky dragon to allow quanta for Sky Blitz) then mix it up with some PC (4 Explosions) and some CC (Pandemonium and Antimatter both of which have been chosen to utilise the leftover  :entropy quanta from the 3x mark) and finally a weapon (lobo) and shield (gravity). Sky blitz has been added for uber extra damage. Offensively, this deck has it covered. I mean, come on, the only creatures are dragons. It has a bit of control to mix things up and its speed will be above averagely fast. It's main weaknessess are no healing and BH. RoL/Hope decks will be trampled upon with the Pandemoniums and the gravity shield. CCYB decks will probably have a chance but that lobo could hurt lots of its creatures. Voodoo Doll decks will probably be in heaven. I was thinking of adding some cloaks and maybe even some silences or nightmares but I wanted to keep the deck as small as possible. I was also thinking of adding some Crusaders as like Knights or something but thought meh.

I'm not too sure how balanced this deck is :P

In the beginning the light shines bright.. but as time passes, the darkness begins to take root. And in time all is corrupted by the darkness......
(The dark ages seemed to be a time when people's hopes were blocked out by dark and evil acts)
This deck follows that theme. The majority of the cards played in the first turn or two will be Light cards. Then as the game goes on more and more Darkness cards will be hitting the board. The Light cards on the board will also begin to be 'corrupted' but the Darkness cards.
Light Pendulum --> produce Darkness quanta half the time
Crusader --> Endowing a Vampire Dagger
Light Dragon --> Get vampired with Liquid Shadow
Solar Buckler --> Gets replace by Improved Dusk
Steals are in there to keep the theme.

As far as being fun to play... it could be interesting... probably not too difficult. Antimatters and Rewinds would hurt the deck. It lacks any real CC, so creature based decks could play them freely.

The Time of the Great Schism - that first war amongst the Gods of the Elemental Planes - destroyed much of that first civilization. The Great Hall of Time burned in the ash fires of Fire Elementals wrath - whole cities were destroyed in the cataclysm that followed. The Great Library of Wisdom was swallowed whole by the earth and the elemental palaces were cast down. The time that followed was known as the Dark Ages of the elements - the light of knowledge had burned out. One lone elemental watched with horror as the collected wisdom of his people was turning to ash - for days he pondered the problem before coming upon the only solution. He, Magnus, would set out and pillage the minds of his people - all elementals - and record the failing knowledge for future generations.

And so Magnus set out on a path for wisdom little knowing that it would take ages to complete - hardly conceiving that it would be a path that took him beyond a mere elemental and to the doorstep of divinity.

Magnus has learned much since that day - and his thirst for knowledge continues to grow - he has now taken his place as a Lesser Deity - counted among the False Gods of the elemental planes and called - Mind Killer

When you first lay your eyes on me.
I look harmless, almost peaceful.
But once I open up to you.
You become afraid.
Of who I am.

And what I will do to you.

With a passive approach, Iron Maiden restricts your futile movements with Silence. But even if you could move, you would not be able to harm it, as it is as hard as granite--you could say that Iron Maiden has Granite Skin. Once you are trapped in a battle against Iron Maiden, you will face a gruesome death. The spikes puncturing you--though not doing fatal damage--will cause you terrible discomfort. Dying by the Iron Maiden is akin to dying from a Deadly Poison; a slow and painful death indeed. The Iron Maiden will make you will feel as if your limbs are turning into stone. You will feel yourself becoming Frozen, that which you previously controlled could be controlled no more. Just as poison accumulates, the pain will grow into a frenzy of delusion and suffering. But don't worry, the death which you now seek will come soon.

A fitting end for a heretic such as yourself.
Maybe you'll think twice before challenging God.

Question: is it allowed to submit a deck / similar version of the deck that's already been posted to some other competition?
Ex-Master of :gravity, still a fervid supporter! GO GRAVY!
