USA VS. THE WORLD

Signups are over!

Rules:

  • Signups are open for a week, starting today.  The larger team will be trimmed down to the size of the smaller team by eliminating players who were the last to sign up. Competition will take place over the week after the signup (the 18th through the 26th).  Each round will be announced and given 72 hours for the matches to be completed.  Players are responsible for making their own arrangements to meet their opponents.
  • This will be a Swiss competition; all players will compete every round against a seeded player from the other team.  Seeding will start based on a mysterious and deliberately unannounced process, and proceed based on wins/losses each round.  After the third round, the total score of each team will be added together, and a victor will be decided.  In the event of a tie, each team will be given one week to nominate one of their top-scoring players to be their "champion", and the two champions will battle for ultimate victory.
  • Each player will submit a decklist (via the On-board Deck Generator (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,5036.0.html)), and a 'sideboard' of exactly 10 cards and 1 different mark (also submitted via a second Deck Generator shot.)  Decks may be altered between rounds only by substituting cards (1 for 1, no adding or subtracting) and mark from the sideboard. Yes, this means that everyone knows what everyone else is going to play before the game starts.  Once posted, a decklist cannot be altered except to upgrade cards on your existing decklist.  Anyone caught breaking this rule will be kicked out of the tournament.
  • The first fight of each BEST-OF-FIVE match MUST be played with your unaltered deck (no sideboard switchouts.)
  • The first three rounds of the tournament will take place in the week after signups are closed.  If it's necessary, the final fight will happen shortly thereafter.
  • This is an Event, not a Competition, so anything goes in terms of deckbuilding, including upgraded cards, rare cards, and Holy Cows if you got  'em.  To that end, talking smack during matches is encouraged, especially if you can get a screenshot to post afterwards (preferably with a screenshot of the reply as well.)  There will be a side competition for most creative smacktalking, with no particular prize and judged entirely by me.
  • MASTERS ONLY: You MUST use the mark of your chosen element exclusively (no second Mark in your sideboard), or 51% of your Deck AND 51% of your Sideboard (rounded up) must be from your chosen element.  All other deck construction rules are left open to you.
  • Any USA player who scores a victory with a Fire/Light/Water deck earns double points for his team.  Any World player who scores a victory with a Mono-Other deck scores triple points for his team. (just kidding!)
  • Have Fun!

I'll begin  (Please use the following format to sign up):

I'm signing up for Team USA.  Here is my deck:

Meh, this is probably a joke. But w/e. Sign me up for USA... Will get the deck & Sideboard later

Also, I think I found a loophole in the deck restriction. But making masters use only one ele mark is stupid, the mark doesn't even have anything to do with the deck. What functional deck has mark of earth and works?

Oh well... Decided to stick mono.

Deck:
Code: [Select]

Well, no one else stepped up to the plate, so you get me and my rules.  If you have a specific critique, I'd be absolutely happy to hear and address it.

Of course it's a joke.  Sorry if I didn't make that clear.   8)

And Terroking, no one said anything about using an Earth deck - just an Earth mark.  Lava Golems, Trident, any permanent-heavy deck with mark-powered PAs...your options are endless.  :)

? Lava Golem is the only really effective deck I can think of there, splashing just for PA isn't a good idea, especially when people will know you can have them. I don't have enough tridents for a deck like that, and RT means I lose. I'm guessing that'll be fairly common

Well, you're the Master of Earth -- get creative.  Show us what Earth can do without Graboids and Pulvy.  If you can't find something, you're not really trying.  Get away from standardized archetypes.  Run Gemfinders+Adrenaline+Granite Skin, or an Antlion/Steel Golem/Shrieker uber-rush (notice how everyone is saying how powerful the revised Abyss Crawler is -- well the revised Steel Golem is the same cost, the same power, and 3 more HP!  Show the world what it can do!), or an Oty+Heavy Armor/Armagio+BBlood deck.  Being the master is about knowing your element well enough to work under more challenging strictures than the average player, and really, using a mark of your own element is just about the SMALLEST restriction I can think of.
If something happens and you think it deserves my attention, feel free to PM me. Other than that, I'm probably here if you want to shoot the breeze.
