Title: Competition: Prophet of Cards
Post by: Kuroaitou on September 08, 2011, 09:16:22 pm
Competition: Prophet of Cards
Original Idea by Kuroaitou | Art by Kuroaitou (modified Elements slots)
The "Prophet" will create several card ideas in secret; participants must try their best to use randomized given clues to try to remake those cards as accurately as possible.
RULES

Ready for another crazy card design competition?

SUBMIT ALL YOUR CARD IDEAS HERE: http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,30749.0.html

(Note: Imagine that each of the statements has the phrase, "One of these cards..." before it - each hint specifically belongs to a random card, although they are not in order, meaning that each set of hints has one hint for the topic in question. Also, all of the hints are referring to non-upped creatures (EXCEPT FOR THE LAST ONE IN 'STATS').)

FAQ:
Q: "Wait, so there's no voting this time around?"
A: "If there's a tie based on the score board, the list of cards will be put up in a poll and voted on."

Q: "No no, I meant WHY is there no voting this time around?"
A: "...several reasons. 1) To test how the community reacts to objective-based competitions where points are all that matters, and not vote count, 2) To discourage card-idea advertisement spam (you can't really advertise your idea, unless you want to be barred from the following competition), and 3) gives me something 'fun' to do in terms of actually hosting a competition. :)"

Q: "How can I know if a question is 'illegal' or not?"
A: "You'll find out if I respond to that question. ;)"

Q: "When I post the card images here, how do I- "
A: "Read the rules carefully. Remember that ALL OF THE CARDS ARE UNUPPED CREATURES. That should be enough of a hint for you already!  :))"

Q: "So I have to resubmit my card if I realized that I made a tiny typo and lose the +6 point bonus from posting third?"
A: "Sadly, yes. This is to prevent people from randomly trying to gain the +6 point bonus by posting (in the submissions topic) a bunch of random and lafirue cards, looking at other ideas that people submit later on, and then modifying their cards to match accordingly."

SCORING PHASE:
The Winner shall be announced soon.

  • ILLEGAL:
"Card 1: Is this card a creature or a spell?" (Yes)
"Can you give me the answers pretty please?" (No)
These answers shouldn't be Illegal!
You can answer both of them truthfully with "Yes" or "No"... even though it doesn't really help the user in the slightest.

Also, please explain what non-paired means.
I @ no understand this!
Can't decide wheter it means that they don't share an element, name, ability or whatever you can pair cards on.

Then try to think of GOOD yes/no questions that -will- help you then Kakerlake. :)

Also, please explain what non-paired means.
I @ no understand this!
It means that all 3 card ideas WILL NOT HAVE AN UPGRADED VERSION. (Read the submissions thread for more details). Non-paired = only the non-upped version of the card idea is considered.

This seems hard, but very interesting also!

I won't count it as a question, but yes, you can start asking questions IN THIS TOPIC now.

Answers (about the cards), however, will be sent privately. ;)

Are any of the cards from :darkness, :aether or :fire?
Do any of the card names contain a 'Q'?

Are of the cards' mechanics/abilities inspired by or are SIMILAR to a card in the Armory or a card already in-game?

Do at least 2 of the cards have an attack stat of 0, 1, 3, 5, or 7?

Do at least 2 of the cards belong in an element beginning with the letters, A, B, C, D, or E?

Are any of the cards of the following elements  :earth :light :death :darkness?

By 'Share/steal', I mean if you ask your 3 questions regarding the cards and then SHARE YOUR ANSWERS with the world, you're disqualified. Likewise, if I hear reports of people trying to 'bribe' each other for their answers, they'll be automatically removed from the competition. Don't send me cards via PM - I'll ignore them completely, regardless of whether they were supposed to be in the submission thread or not.

Do all three creatures have active abilities?
Do any of the creatures have passive abilities?
Is there at least one stat (ATK|HP) among the six listed that is higher than any current sample of that stat currently in-game?

maybe last question(that don't count).  about score table....  that for only 1 card right?   i will get a 4*3 score if i can matching three element?

-snip-
The Competition Organizer will create 3 single non-paired non-Other/"pseudo element" creature card ideas (i.e. - of one version, specifically the non-upped version) in secret unknown to all other participants. These cards will only be known to the CO and possibly the administrator (Scaredgirl).
-snip-
If you ask more than 3 questions, I will only answer the first 3.
-snip-
Basically what I'm try to say is all three cards are creatures, and also yes, you only get 3 votes.

(This isn't a competition question): Can we ask 1 question, recieve the answer, ask another question, receive the answer, and then ask another question, or do all 3 have to be in the same post? Are we allowed to ask conditional questions (i.e. Q1: Do any cards devour? Q2: If yes: Is the card using devour in the element Gravity - If no: Do any cards grow?)?
Title: Re: Competition: Prophet of Cards

Are we allowed to ask conditional questions (i.e. Q1: Do any cards devour? Q2: If yes: Is the card using devour in the element Gravity - If no: Do any cards grow?)?
Please try to consolidate your questions into one post so that i can see what your '3 questions' are. If you spread them out, I might skip over them (which will grant you the bonus points for not asking questions, although that would hurt your understanding of the cards).

Conditional questions are illegal technically, because I will (again) answer the first three questions I see with a yes or a no. So using that conditional, regardless of whether or not I answer yes or no on the first one, both of the questions in the conditional will still be answered with a yes/no,and the 'real' third question will be ignored.

so i must create 3 card with 3 hint....     and it must to be a correct position too?

ok...   and now share/steal mean that...   isn't it mean that i can look at other card before i do anything....   maybe good....  or not....    ^-^

3 questions, hints will be coming later - during the 'Hinting' Phase, one specific hint will allow people to organize their cards accordingly so I can see which card is which.

Yes, the downfall of posting earlier in the submissions thread is that others can tweak their idea and post it after yours to gather more points. Of course, if you're wrong on some parts, and they copy those wrong parts, then they're more likely to fail compared to you. You can also repost your idea, assuming you're willing to give up your position in the submissions thread.

Correct - each score is applied to each card individually. If you get all 3 elements right (fat chance, but I won't doubt the possibility of someone getting it right ;) ), you get 12 points.

By the way, for those who are concerned about scoring, the point system is categorized so that the maximum number of points you can get on a single card idea is 60, meaning that if someone is telepathic psychopath, that you get up to 180 points total.

No. Once the 'HINTING' phase begins, all questions regarding the cards themselves will be ignored (or in some cases, will actually cause you to LOSE MORE points than asking them in this phase).

Actually, I'm going to ask 3 questions for the hell of it. I know you'll hate me, Kuro, but hey, YOU decided for three questions!

1) If a is the number of cards with a cost between 1 and 3 (included) and b is the number of cards with a cost between 7 and 9, is the sentence "(a>1 AND b=0) OR (b>1 AND a=0) OR (a=2 AND b=1) OR (a=1 AND b=2)" true?

2) If a is the number of cards with a cost between 1 and 3 (included) and b is the number of cards with a cost between 7 and 9, is the sentence "(a>1 AND b=0) OR (b>1 AND a=0) OR (a=1 AND b=1) OR (a=1 AND b=0)" true?

3) If a is the number of cards with a cost between 1 and 3 (included) and b is the number of cards with a cost between 7 and 9, is the sentence "(a>1 AND b=0) OR (a=2 AND b=1) OR (a=1 AND b=1) OR (a=0 AND b=1)" true?

If you really don't want to bother with the logics, here is a quick recap of what these questions mean:

Do all cards have an ability?
Does at least one card hava an ability of a different element than the cards(e.g:lava destroyer)?
If  :aether=1, :air=2, :darkness=3, :death=4, :earth=5, :entropy=6, :fire=7, :gravity=8, :life=9, :light=10, :time=11 and :water=12; is the sum of the elements of the cards greater than 19?

(Note: Imagine that each of the statements has the phrase, "One of these cards..." before it - each hint specifically belongs to a random card, although they are not in order, meaning that each set of hints has one hint for the topic in question.)
Clarification needed: this means each set of three hints has one hint for each card regarding the topic in question, but that they are in random order, right? So the first three hints have exactly one hint per card (say, the first is a hint for card 2, the second for card 1 and the third for card 3), while the second three have another hint each, but (possibly) in a different order?

Yes to all of the questions. :) - This means each set has 3 hints, one hint for one card, organized in random order (potentially). ;)

Another couple questions:
Quote
Would have to deal with a total of 9 cards (sum of all creatures and non-pillar/pendulum permanents) from its opposite element.
Just to make sure, you counted all creatures (including Nymphs) and permanents excluding pillars, pendulums but including Marks? I think it's without Marks and it's a typo, but...

Quote
Comes from an element that can repeatedly produce a very specific creature of its element.
This excludes ways to repeatedly generate a very specific (unique) creature of that element that allow to repeatedly generate also creatures from other elements, right? (There is a card that allows that).

EDIT: Also:
Quote
Part of an element that has a creature that is capable of gaining both an ATK and a HP boost.
Does this include the use of other in-element cards or is it limited on the creature alone?

EDIT II:
Quote
its ATK is within 2 points of a creature that is capable of Burrowing.
I protest on the most useless hint ever. At least specify if you are referring to unupped or upped and that you exclude mutations.

Shouldn't include marks. Modifying now.

This was one of the most interesting Competition i ever done. I can't give feedbacks about scoring until i see the scoring phase in action, but for now i think that we should have a question phase after hints, or at least a freequestion phase before hints. Or maybe both!

The hints were hard but not impossible, i think that the level of difficulty was balanced. But maybe after seeing the cards my opinion could change!  :P

For a close total of 57 points...

CONGRATULATIONS TO TheManuz !!! :D

GENERAL NOTES:

Major note:
In order for a person to get any 'Mechanics' points (up to 10), two conditions had to be met:
1) The mechanic had to be on the right CREATURE (to do this, I first base it on the name; if the names are wrong, I based the mechanics on which element they should belong to. If the elements are wrong, then I base it on the creatures that have the closest resembling 'costs' or stats, and if the costs and stats are all the same or completely too extreme, then I ignore scoring that section altogether.

2) Had to have precise wording in terms of what the mechanic could do. Explanations for mechanic-point rewarding is in the boxes as follows.

ParticipantCard NamesElementCostStats (Atk+HP)Ability NameAbility CostMechanicsQuestions?Post RankTOTAL

You're kidding. Had I asked one question less I would have won.

I'm not happy about the scoring, nor the fact that the penalty for asking questions wasn't made clearer at the beginning, but it was a fun competition.

Congratulations, TheManuz.

Congratulations TheManuz!

@Kuroaitou,
0 Points for Mechanics? o.O
I really don't like the scoring of this one. All the mechanics I wrote were quite close to your cards, except for that little element fail :(
