Competition:
Elements Card Flavor Text #2Time's up! Winners from the previous Card Flavor Text competition (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,8148.0.html)Welcome to another Elements Card Flavor Text competition. Flavor text has once again been discussed in the Game Suggestions and Feedback section, so I thought it would be a good idea to resurrect this old competition, and maybe get some new great ideas.
What is flavor text?Flavor text is the name given to text for action figure character backgrounds, playing cards, or within the pages of a role-playing game's rulebook. While appropriate to the product's or game's story concept, it usually has no effect on the mechanics of the game, but instead serves to add realism or characterization to the item in question. Flavor text is often the last text on a card or on the rear of a toy card or package, and is usually printed in italics or written between quotes to distinguish it from game-affecting text.
COMPETITION RULES:- Each contestant must post 3 card images with flavor text added to them.
- All 3 cards have to be from different elements.
- You are free to make either serious or humorous cards, or both.
- If you decide to change your submission, edit the original post. Do not start a new post.
- Your submissions will compete with other submissions as a group. This means that we do not vote for individual cards, we vote for groups of 3. This is why it's important to make all three cards equally good.
- If you fail at making the card, for example picking the wrong color for flavor text, you will be disqualified. Please double check your cards before posting them.
- You must use the correct format when posting your cards. See the example below.
- winner will get an awesome forum award icon
- Use this same topic for all discussions
- This competition does not mean that flavor texts will be implemented in Elements. But it might happen some day, who knows.
Below is a tutorial on how to produce these card images.
OPENING FILE1. Download Elements cards in need of flavor text (
http://download890.mediafire.com/5h8bzai3gyyg/e8r1ygbzoipvg6b/Elements+cards+in+need+of+flavor+text.pxd) on your computer. It's an image file that the editor in the next step can use. It doesn't contain any viruses or anything like that, so don't worry. Many card images are missing from the file. This is because I only included cards that have two or more empty lines at the bottom. If you don't find a specific card in the list, that means that particular card didn't have enough space for flavor text.
2. Go to
http://www.pixlr.com/editor/3. Choose "Open image from computer", find the file you just downloaded, and open it.
MAKING A CARD IMAGE1. Make the "Layers" panel on the right bigger by dragging on the bottom right corner of it. You should now see a big list of different layers. first 12 layers for flavor text, rest are card images.
2. Each layer has a small checkbox on the right. Click a checkbox to make that layer visible, or unclick it to make that layer invisible. Choose one card layer, and the correct text layer. Only cards that have space for flavor text have been included.
3. Click the text layer in the "Layers" panel so that it is selected. Choose the "Type Tool" from the left (it looks like a big A).
4. Click the flavor text on the image and a text editing window should open.
5. Change the text and press "Ok".
6. If the text is in the wrong place (for example not centered), choose "Move Tool" and move it around.
SAVING AND UPLOADING THE FILE1. Once ready, click "Save", and save the image as PNG to your computer. Then just use any image hosting provider to upload your image on the web. You can use the one offered by Pixlr in that "Save" window, or follow the steps below.
1. Go to
http://imgur.com/2. Upload an image
3. Take the code from that left that says "message board" and looks something like this:

4. Insert the code to your post
2. When you have the image urls, move on to the next step.
POSTING CARDS1. Post all cards in a single line, separated by one space.
2. Below the cards, post a code that includes your 3 cards exactly like they are above. If you do not know how to do this, look at the example below, or copy what others are doing.
3. Submissions posts should only include the 3 card images and the code that produced them. If you want to talk about card submissions, please start a new post for that.
