This looks like it would work better as a Creature. (simplify card text)
I agree but:
    Death has already 8 creatures (the highest number after Time (9)).Death has only 3 spells (the lowest number after Time (2)).
Maybe a change in the wording would be enough to simplify it. In a similar manner as BE, it could be: "Target a non-undead creature. The creature's skill is now  :death :death :death: Zombify."

SnoWeb is right. There is good reason to keep it a spell and simplify the text in that manner.

How would this improve ETG?
It's a new card with a different ability.
It is good that you recognize the value of new content.

However I would not have asked Emerald Tiger  a question with that simple or easy an answer.
(new content is valuable but increasing or maintaining average quality is an important characteristic of improvements)

So how would this improve ETG?

It's not like Poison because Poison only poisons a creature, not affecting it's ability. Zombie would be cool because the zombified creature also gets the ability, THUS, giving it CC as well (considering that the card owner has the quanta to use it).
It is like poison, but it's also like lobotomy.  It's basically - Z: poison the target, it's ability becomes Z.  Which is redundant with lobotomy and poison, plus there's already Liquid Shadow and Parasite / Mind Flayer.

Isn't that what one concept of a zombie is? ( a slowly decaying mindless(lobotomized) creature only function is to spread the disease.)

This seems like it would end up being like an expensive malignant cell for skills that would spread to both sides, each player using it on each others creatures until every single creature out has the zombie skill and they all start dieing.

Actually that kinda seems like a real zombie invasion, I can see the survivors trying any means to kill off the enemy zombies so that they don't become one themselves. Fantastic work on creating a zombie invasion within ETG, its like a game within a game.

The thing is, wouldn't you try to Zombify your own creatures first so they don't die? That's why I suggested the change that the zombies are the one that die...so you it's more of a "invade your opponent" card as opposed to "target yourself so that your opponent has to deal with a mechanically identical plague that also affects you unless you use a lot of death quanta to protect all your creatures."

[edit on my suggestion: make it zero cost so that your opponent can use it too]

Do not make the ability free, have it cost  :death or  :rainbow.
Do not make the activation costs different if possible.

Here I agree. The mechanic is new but it doesn't bring anything. Why would you give your opponent the opportunity lobotomise your creatures? Moreover, mind flayer, liquid shadow and lobotomiser already do it better / faster / stronger / cheaper (
) (as would Daft Punk say).
You should think of a second transformation which would give a higher interest to the card. The target creature becomes (a) undead (this way you would have a nice interaction with rewind and the like), (b) a death card (this way you would have an interest to play eclipse with it, (c) poisoned (not only will is it loboed but it will die after a while), (d) poisonous if ingested (meh) or (e) something unexpected and epic.

How about if the the skill is not activated the creature's controller takes 1 damage?
I want this to be a skill that must be used, if it is not there is a penalty.

Edit: Major rework of idea. now with this player gains benefit of death affects, it is not an instant kill affect, the only card similar to this now is mutate. I still think there needs to be a down side to this.

Seems like a minor buff that can also trigger death effects/become mass lobotomy. (It also reminds me of Death Sage (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,24770.0.html), except that this can also target enemy creatures.)

I think it should cost 4-3 :death | 3-2 :death , taking Lobotomizer into consideration.
