"ally" refers to any creature you own (e.g. you cannot target enemy creatures with this)

Water has an abundance of creatures that are more useful for their ability than for the damage they deal with their attack.
Squids and mind flayers are the two most obvious, along with unupgraded toadfish.

They have rather low HP, making them easy targets for both direct and mass CC.

In addition, this card will synnergy extremely well with SoPa since it can keep several creatures protected until the shard can give them enough HP to be safe on their own.

Note that this ability only protects the creature from taking damage. It provides no protection against delay, rewind, etc.
Also, it will not stop application of poison status, it will only prevent the damage that it deals while the creature is frozen.

The term "cryostasis" was chosen as a nod to the "stasis" ability on sundial which prevents creatures from attacking but does not disrupt ability use.
This effect is similar except that it is more protective in nature and prevents the creature from being harmed as well.
The only exception is physical damage effects... namely Gravity Pull.

... There is some discussion over whether snipe (and some other damage sources) are considered a "physical damage" source or not.
I'm not going to go take a specific side on that myself. If it is deemed to be physical, then this card will not protect against it. Otherwise it will.

What it definitely does protect against:
1) Poison
2) Spell damage (lightening, rain of fire, etc.)

I've started using the marks for all my cards now. They weren't always available in the past but now that they are I agree that its a great way to mark the cards for players that focus on a particular element.

That's great, I didn't even notice that. Sadly, there are only few players who make Water cards.  :(

Awww, thank you.  ;)
And this is a nice idea, though in turn the protected creatures are vulnerable to Shockwave.

Right. I almost forgot about shockwave... but I kind of like the double edge that provides. It keeps it unique from immaterial status.

sounds a bit harsh if your opponent has no PC in these cases.

Hmm... good point. Might need to limit it to non-physical damage.

Is that the only abuse issue though? If so I might be able to tweak the wording.

With acceleration this is no stronger than purify. Normally the main abuse with a creature not taking any damage is GP.

What I ask was whether acceleration counts as damage or not.

Okay, I changed the wording of the card so that it won't be abuseable with GP any longer.
Sadly, I had to effectively make the effect specific to the chosen target rather than applying to all of your frozen creatures... but that may be for the best.
I reduced cast cost slightly to compensate.
With acceleration this is no stronger than purify. Normally the main abuse with a creature not taking any damage is GP.

What I ask was whether acceleration counts as damage or not.
I'm not going to go into case by case specifics here.
Acceleration does indeed deal damage (see rage potion). The max HP stat is not actually lowered, the creature just loses HPs (despite the wording... which I always found confusing).
If it is agreed upon as a "physical damage" source, then this card will not stop it.
Otherwise it will.

The same will go for snipe, and all other possible exceptions.
If the damage is deemed to be "physical" e.g. the same type as attack damage from creatures, then this card will not protect against it. Otherwise it will.
