Yeah, Chronophage was simply the best card of the lot.

Now that this round is over, Rutarete, Stopwatch is actually a really good idea as a mono-card.  Where it fell apart, I think, was that there's no reason to throw  onto the card...what do they gain out of it? Theme fits  only, where Manipul8r's Chronophage tied it into being a  creature. 

I'd say remodel it as a  only card and send it on to Crucible.

Perhaps you're right. If it really is better as a mono, it's ironic to me that it made it so far. Do you think, for this as a duo card, that any of the other elements would have fit well instead of aether?

Not particularly.  Maaaaybe  through Basilisk Blood, but that's rather weak and it still doesn't tie into the actual Stopwatch mechanic...there's no reason for a timepiece to generate any quanta other than Time.  (Unless you're going 'sands through the hourglass' kinda thing, but that's kinda taken already.)

Just as a though - isn't a Stopwatch electric?

You could also try adding the effect that it generates quantum when a creature is quinted - or you could just make that another card entirely.
