What do you mean by "too much"? The upgrade is worse than the unupgraded, and you can always use the unupgraded in upgraded environments.
How is it worse unupped?
The unupped is only useful in rainbows and the upgraded gives you more quanta, the fact that its random makes no difference as its a rainbow anyway
other uses include mindgate, TU + ability usage, fractal to name a few. upgrade is worse because you can't do all of that and this is in most match-ups worse than a snova.
EDIT: completely forgot about permanents+steal, and most permanents' abilities cost the same element as the card
The unupped is only useful in a rainbow deck? It can be put in any otherwise mono deck with just an Entropy mark to power this card.
I don't really like the card. It doesn't generate very much quanta unless used on a dragon, and even then it's still not enough to justify splashing Entropy into a deck and the card slot this takes up.
Nice concept though.
That gives me a fun idea, maybe i should make the unupped generate both quanta of its element and quanta of your mark?
