Just for every new person to Photoshops notice.

As it was the first time I used Photoshop when I started making my interpretations of cards that I would like to see in the game I followed the instructions to the letter and yes they were wonderful and thankyou to all who were a part of putting the file together and to Scaredgirl for having this available.

My point to notice is that although the instruction is to save as a Web Device Capable file, which by the way you need to do, it does not also specify to save your working card file as a .psd so you can further edit it in the future.

This may have been covered somewhere else and if so I apoligise for this.

So to all learning how to use Photoshop please ensure you both save it as a Web Device Capable file and as a Psd file so you can easily go back to it.

(Use Save As to do this)

Thankyou all and everyone for your comments and assistance in learning this over the last few weeks.

Yours

Scyther

The file format isn't supported by browsers, that's why it's not displaying. Downloading it (the one in the first post) still works just fine.

I, myself, am an avid GIMP user, and I think I might be able to adjust the PSD to work with GIMP easily.

Instead of using grouped layers, I plan to re-organise them into one solid xcf file where each and every element set is grouped together. In other words, all the layers with regards to Aether are put together, hence making it easier to navigate without the folders in PS.

Likewise, for this to work I need to know the text size and font. That would help tremendously. Thanks in advance!

I'm not quite sure what you mean by that grouping thing, and I'm not sure if you have thought about all the card possibilities like for example abilities that cost different quantum. But there's always room for improvement, and if you find a system that is better than what I did, all the better.

Btw there's already a slightly bugged Gimp version lurking on this thread somewhere. Might wanna check it out.

About the font.. I wouldn't use the real font because it's non-standard. Better to use a font that everyone has. Size is also something that doesn't really have to be pixel perfect imo. Just use a card as an example and estimate (which can be pixel perfect too using the zoom tool).

Noted. I've been fiddling with it and came up with this. I didn't really start from scratch, but instead I opened up the PSD and tried to make it GIMP compatable, while at the same time making it a little more user friendly by grouping relevant information together. As a comparison, I made a copy of acelink's entry (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,4192.msg46421#msg46421) into the "Make This card" competition. His is on the left, while mine is on the right:

It looks pretty much ok, except that the font chosen and shadow effect is different. GIMP's text tool editing is absolutely atrocious. Pretty much the only bad thing about it so far. I haven't tried out other combinations yet. Currently uploading what I have so far to Mediafire. Hope it loads.

Wow. This is brilliant, +1 karma for this.

Now I just need an idea to test it with.
