New: Mark of Legion Updated Background https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=2909.msg24445#msg24445
« on: February 09, 2010, 02:04:30 am »
SO everybody seems to have ideas for new marks but I thought seen as I was border today i would take it another step.

As below my new Mark and its cards that I have thought of. It is a Martial Power Mark only. So no real spells etc and the bonuses are to Hp and Attack.

I have added a background story as the last post currently on this page. Thanks all for your advice.

Thanks for taking a peek.

Mark of Legion:

Creatures:

Permanents:

Weapons:

Shields:

Spells:

Rares:

As you can see there is some synergy going between them and the joy of designing far out weighs the ridicule I may get for them.

If I have posted this in the wrong place I apoligise I could not find a specific Thread to add this too and seen as it has card designs I thought it could at least slip in here just.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you all

Amazing idea, and its similar to my idea. I had an idea like this, but you obviously beat me to it. I woulda called it "Mark of Combat". Looks amazing, +1 karma for your epicality.

Thanks for your words.

I must apoligise I never finished the Pillar for it and also I am missing a card as well which I am yet to make up but I am getting a headache from too much time spent in Photoshop. :)

The other card just so you know is a Eagle of the Ninth card which gives some bonuses to the Legionnaires and Centurions only.

I'll be back later to add it.

Thanks

... How do you find the time to DO all this!?

Wow, this set is REALLY nicely thought out, with some nice art along with great variety. VERY nice job, bonus points for making cards for the ENTIRE MARK. :D Epic job.

Umm, I'll comment now. :P

Legionairre: A great cheap attacker whose main goal is to synergize with other creatures. Good.

Cataphract: Good, but I'm worried about something. The ability does the exact same thing as Dive for the Wyrm and Pegasus, but obviously it doesn't fit with the theme. However, it feels... hm... unneccesary to have 2 skills that do the exact same thing.
Perhaps you could turn this into a Winged Hussar with Dive or something? XP

Centarian: Good, ability might be a bit cheap. Make its ability cost 2 or even 3. Otherwise, nice synergy.

Gladiator: This... this guy is fine, a bit of a dull ability but fine nevertheless. Cost should be increased: Gladiator should cost 4, Spartacus should cost 5 or even 6.

Archer: Way overpowered. A deck with this and Flying Owl's Eyes would absolutely dominate. Seriously, the ability to hurt opponent creatures at that cost is VERY powerful. I would either nerf the attack to 1 damage or increase the costs severely overall (increased ability cost, increased casting cost). AND make it rare. :P

Onager: Good, but it's kinda strange having a machine as a creature. If there was one card I would cut out from this 13-card set, it would be this one; good, but kinda unneccesary. The cardset is too large anyways; it should be around 10 cards big. :P

Barracks: Good, but too cheap. Make the ability an active one which costs either 1 or 2 Legion.

The weapons and the shields are... too weak. Cut out the shield entirely and make the weapon rare and interesting :P

The Tetsudo is nice but it should only give a 1|1 augment or a 0|2 augment; in its current state it may be too powerful.

Martial and Defensive training are both very powerful and cost a lot. Nice! :D

Catapult is OMGWTFBBQ waaay too powerful. It does EPIC damage and has an EPIC ability for very cheap. I would recommend thinking of something entirely different; in its current state it is very overpowered. Perhaps for 3 Quanta it destroys a random permanent and does 4 damage per turn, or something to that extent. :D But a good idea.

Thanks for a VERY nice set of cards. Only problem is - you're missing the most important cards.

THE PILLARS! :P Lol! Very nicely done, anyways. +Karma!

Ok so as I read what you have written it highlights many of the flaws in the cards but that is great as that is my intention of posting them.

The Archer and the Catapult were put in as Creature and Permanent Control for this deck so although I will leave them in the deck I will take your advice and make them more costly for potentially a lowerer result. THis will balance them a bit more.

A winged Hussar would be great in this deck and would correspond with the abiltiy to charge without making it seem too distant.

The centurian I will raise to 2 for its ability as it seems that once the whole synergy thing is going you may have too many strong creatures with all the bonuses.

The Gladiator I will change as well making him cost a little more as well as Spartacus.

I will do more research on the weapons and make them a little more useful as well as the shields. maybe it only needs the one shield Testudo which I will remake as well with the abilites you have suggested.

Barracks will cost 1 Legion to summon but will get a free one when played.

Prehaps with the Catapult the cost for the ability can stay the same but lower the overall attack of the weapon and raise the cost to play it.

I am unsure as to the Balistae, this was in response to the Dragons that the other marks have but it may not be needed as after a few Defense and Martial cards have been played you end up with very strong cheap creatures on the field.

I apoligise for not doing the pillar I will rectify that as soon as I can.

Also there was another card but that may be too strong so I left it out

Thankyou

Scyther

Honestly, while I think that the cards are amazing (+Karma) and the design behind them is excellent, I just don't see a place for PEOPLE in Elements at all.

We have one Elf, one Druid, and one Gnome...and I just don't think it's in-flavor to add a whole bunch of dudes to a mostly-beasty game.
If something happens and you think it deserves my attention, feel free to PM me. Other than that, I'm probably here if you want to shoot the breeze.

I'm sort of with essence on this one, sorry Scyther :)...

While the suggestion is interesting, and +karma for going out of your way to make individual card art for an entire mark... I just don't see a place for humans to be running around in Elements.

I was torn between loving this idea and hating it. Maybe the new element should be called Marmite? ;)

As Essence says, we only have 1 Elf, 1 Gnome and a Druid - no other creature-card or spell-card has any sort of mention about a humanoid. Maybe Zanz intended it this way, maybe the storyline he has in his mind for Elements is that Humanity doesn't exist in the realm of Elements.

Not sure :) but, again, nice idea though!

Wow!  This is a truly epic tour de force!  While I've been quibbling about making a tweak on a card or 2, you've been dreaming on a much larger scale.

This is clearly a monodeck, unless you're planning to use air for the winged hussars (I advise against it--the original charge for cavs is just fine.)

Also, catapult is OP, I'd reduce damage if it's going to have permanent destruction capabilities.

I am torn like many of the other previous posters about where this fits in the Elements landscape.  The fact that there are few other humanoid creatures (don't forget Anubis folks....) doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad fit.  This new "human element" is posited in the realm of supernatural forces, a bit like Clash of the Titans.  Fittingly, the upstart humans cannot rely on any help from other elements.  This would fit with many classical Greek mythology stories.

On the other hand, it feels like this could be one deck from a new Elements-like game.  You would have different tribes (Roman, Greek, Chinese, Aztec, Egyptian, Viking, Zulu, etc.) and each would have its own set of specific troops and unique abilities.

Finally, these cards are your babies so you can alter them (or not alter them) as you wish.  I advise not making any quick changes but instead allow time for multiple opinions to flesh out all the plusses and minuses.  That way you can thoughtfully make more subtle changes to the deck as a whole instead of going crazy by altering one card too much, then trying to compensate with another....

BRAVO!!!! (+karma for the sheer effort)
Bring back Holy Cow!

Erm, great made, except some little flaws:
:death The mark is.. not in the theme of elements. It's not round, nor fantasy-ishly
:death HUMANS are not in the theme of elements
:death archer and catapult are too strong.
:death It's not really an ELEMENT...
Despite all that, it is a great set and, especially the balistae is an awesome and needed idea.
It's just that I doubt this are good for the game. Sorry. Karma for the effort, anyways

Thanks everyone for the advice and Karma I really appreciate it.

These cards where really a take on making a new mark so Glitch I am sorry that it is another mark but I wanted to show the best way to create a mark is to show the cards you would offer to make it.

ALthough yes I understand that a martial power may not be in keeping with the Elements theme so far and having humanoids is pretty tough but I was developing a Roman based board game so went straight from that to this. My apoligies for that.

I suppose it could be redeveloped for elements using different creatures but for now I will take Boingos advice and sit back and listen to all your constructive words and assitance.

Thanks again for all the time you have put in to reading my posts.

He ran. Haunted by the darkness the night closed in. Only the throb of his heart echoed in the stillness. Perhaps the last of his kind he cradled the Helm of Sovereign beneath his robes, torn and shredded his naked feet burst upon the rocks as the howls of Werewolves echoed behind him.

Racing to the hilltop he felt the cool breeze of promise hurriedly crushed by the span of tendrilled wings as once more dragons dove to reach him as he scuttled futility across earth’s surface.

Gazing back at the burning citadel he left behind his heart opened and torn in two by pain of loss and desire of revenge. A cry bespoke his minds turning and turning he saw in the echo of light the last of the cities troops their valiant stand against the monsters of their own design now vastly shadowed by nights fall. He knew that all those years of magic had only brought them pain, their race had sought to own the elements, to be in control and bend them to their will but none had succeeded instead a way into this world had been made and now the Demons of old stalked the land their hellbound cries of destruction now crumbled the last hope of humanities folly.

He the last of the Wielders was left and with him the Helm that had started it all shone brilliant, calling to him to raise its power once more to slay the beasts and bring to ground the mighty elements once and for all. But yet he waited knowing in his heart the pain this decision had already brought and with that thought he took to his heels, racing to the last Legion left. The only ones still fighting, their tattered Eagle flying high above them as the centurion screamed inspiring words to his ever lessening troops. Their struggle against these elemental beings was futile a waste in this world as the creatures of Darkness and Death had already descended and no mere power would stand in the way of these beasts.

His staff lashed out as he struggled through the Cells hording themselves and overrunning the ever tightening defence. Words of power shot from his mouth as streams of Lightening crushed the Skeletons that raised from the bodies of the dead, Vultures circled overhead their cries like rusted hinges swinging in the northern gale, as vampires sucked the life from his people.

Reaching the shield wall, for an instant his heart dropped as he saw the consternation on the soldiers face. It was his doing. He was the one that made the pact with the False God, he who supposed to give him eternal life but now damnation was his for all time. The shield parted and the centurion stepped forth.

"Alas such have the mighty fallen that you come to us, the last of our people for sanctitude. Here you will find none but angry hate that boils at the soul of our swords"

He stood watching the centurion, the ground shook as mighty Ivory Dragons joined with Dark ebony brethren the final attack ready to wipe once and for all that race of ours from this hallowed ground.

"Behold take this path," the mage cried, "go forth and find you allies in this world, there are elements of Light and Life which will bond with you in taking this Morte to the graven hell he finally belongs"

With these words he raised the Helm of Sovereign high and echoed a chant of ancient speak his voice seeming to mesmerise the attacking creatures holding them deep in his spell he drained his own life force to bless that which will give the last legion the only chance in the world beyond.

Stepping forth the centurion called his men, and marching through the gate they came to a world of war, an elemental battle raged and they stood unsure but ready for battle. The last gasp of the Mages voice echoed through the closing void as he passed the Helm of Sovereign to the Centurion.

"Take this," he called, " you will need some small magic even if you spurn all others"

A gaping maw sprung through the gap it's Devourers gape open to swallow the centurion whole but quickly the troops responded and soon it lay at his feet.

Turning the centurion addressed his comrades,

"Friends we are in a strange place but now we must battle this world, crush all beneath our feet that ally themselves with this Morte and gain allies in good and strong respect. To war, for the revenge of our hearts is unsated and waiting prowling in the darkness"

And so it began the journey of the Ninth Legion, its hate for magic and all its false trappings and its lust for glorified battle and eternal sleep for the creatures of Dark and Death that had destroyed all that they called home.
