This feels so much like an MtG card (a similar one probably exists), but I like it anyway! Hooray for new synergy, too.

True the name and mechanic came from an MtG card but the idea mostly came from the fact that life need a way to destroy shield.. In war facing life was just : hey nvm just put 6 dim shield.

Just wondering, what are some examples of cases when I'd want to destroy my own shield?

When you have a diss shield and need some quanta to play.
When you have activated a SoSac and have a dim shield/wings in play.

3 and 2|1 and sacrificing one creature to only destroy your opponent's shield? Seems pretty UP. Maybe make it change so that when it explodes it can destroy any permanent and the unstable gas explosion (all creatures take 1 damage effect happen). Or you could also make it that its ability automatically triggers upon death. This grants CC protection and PC at the same time.

This does not change much of anything. Life always could have dipped  to play Deflagrations. This does not reduce Life's dependence on other elements.

If I were to rephrase my post: This is a nice option/card for PC.

Actually it's an easy fix.
Remove the activation cost.
(Possibly) make it any permanent.
