Ah, you beat me to my daisho idea.
Been working on essentially the same idea here... although I was going with a Daisho theme: o-wakizashi and ko-wakizashi
Basically the making the same idea although I was going to have both of them function as duel sword and shield like mechanics.

In any event, I just thought that the idea of having a weapon like shield and a shield like weapon was pretty cool, so this works just as well.

From a consistency perspective you could go with:

Spikey Shield worded as
"Weapon: Reduce damage by one"

and Second blade worded as
"Shield: Deals 6 damage at the end of each turn"

This should be enough to clue players into what slot they go into since it is already ingrained by the wording of every other weapon and shield in the game.
That also would free up text space if you had any other effects in mind.
Whether the glass is half full or half empty is a moot point. It is always filled to the brim. It is only a matter of by what. The real question is: What fills you?

Would the atk/DR be cumulative? Because a shield combo with Diamond Shield would be quite interesting :D too bad the shield can't be AWed (make it AWable, please <3)

And, because flying shields do stack, I kinda don't want to make that combination OP by making the shield the upped.
But then again, Hope's pretty brutal and far harder to counter, so I could switch them around. Because they're kinda "opposite common weapons", and... the common sword sucks, I was wondering whether I should make the permanents a bit different...

Yeah, flip the permanents, make the unupped a bad upped shortsword.

To me, a weapon and a shield simply means "deal" and "reduce" damage respectively. It's how I learned the game.
I just wanted to make sure there's no misconception about how the thing worked.

And now I'm unsure which card should be the upped. ;-;
