That is a strange upgrade.
The unupped version is a pure vanilla... honestly I'ld probably just use lesser vampires.
I think, for the most part, pure vanillas tended to be rather unpopular for card concepts in the past... although semi-vanillas (with a low-key / non-active skill) sometimes got a good response.
Maybe with Cygnia additions looming that might change though so who knows...
Its a little tricky to balance that upped ability. Its akin to guard I suppose, in that it effectively prevents the enemy creature from attacking you and has potential CC interactions. I suppose it could be used as a very expensive AM counter as well.
Given the high cost of Devil to begin with the cost might come down slightly... its tough to say though due to the potential for a very powerful CC against certain elements.
The fact that the utility can vary so much based on the opponent's creatures definitely makes it interesting.
I made some art for an imp card I had a couple years ago. I think the card vanished into the archives long before the CI&A reset, so maybe the art can find a new home.
Its actually just a tweaked wikipedia commons image, but I believe that fits as copyright free.
