Rustify | Oxidate https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=60595.msg1216267#msg1216267
« on: November 25, 2015, 07:47:05 pm »
NAME:
Rustify
ELEMENT:
Can't decide for Air or Water so i choose both of them
COST:
4
TYPE:
Spell
EFFECTS:
Reduce weapon damage, Remove skill
TEXT:
Target any weapon or shield. Remove any effects from that card and reduce attack power by 1 each turn for 5 turns (attack power can't below 1)
NAME:
Oxidate
ELEMENT:
Like i said it on left side, i can't decide between Air and Water so i go hybrid
COST:
5
TYPE:
Permanent
EFFECTS:
Delay (?), Destroy
TEXT:
Target any permanent, that permanent becomes inactive. Destroy both this card and targeted card after 3 turns. :time :time : Destroy both card without waiting 3 turns

ART:
Wikipedia :v
IDEA:
Me while studying for remedial test on chemistry.
NOTES:
This is my third post. Hope my idea is Rational (Science and Creativity just not enough).

For un-upped version, shields loses all effects due to rust (rusted shield breaks easily, said my friends). And for weapons, it loses all but attack power since rusted weapon still useable for attacks in real-life but its power is drastically reduced.

For upped version, i don't think i can explain it easier. Permanent that targeted by this card will becomes not responding.. i guess. i.e.
-oxidated shield and weapon can't attack also can't defend
-oxidated cloak loses its invisible
-oxidated sanctuary don't protect your quanta from pesty devourer/devouring pest
-oxidated flooding makes no water
-oxidated bond loses all of its empathy
-Morning Star is too damn cool so it can't be oxidated
-for pillars... about pillars... just one of them that's inactive i think?)

If this card is not understandable, share your thoughts about it. Sorry for very bad english and vocabulary.
Spoiler for Spoiling of course:
And when i re-think about it, those two cards have very different mechanics. I should made it separated cards. Poor me.

Why not call the unupgraded version "oxidize" instead of rustify?

How is the upgraded version mechanic different from just outright destroying something?

I like the idea of soft weapon/shield control (permanents in general)
I also like the idea of alternatively using :time which makes sense to hasten the process.

Quite clever,

I spoiled the spoiler ( I laughed at that :P ) and I think it is fine, functionally, they don't differ too much and I think it would be better to keep them both together.
Making another card would have brought this one to mind and would be a waste.

Also "Rustify" is not really a word ( as far as I know),
Oxidize is a much better name imo.
EDIT: Dammnit ODIN don't ninja me!!! :P

and there is no problem with naming both unupped and upped the same.
(It is your choice of course)

I think you should however change upped to a similar effect as unupped,
"Cannot use ability for X turns" or "cannot use ability/lowers damage further" for example.

Nice idea though :)

EDIT 2: LOL Odin! xD

@Flayne
Sorry, I can't help it, 4 yrs in undergrad and 6 years of phd work in chemistry just made my brain twitchy when I saw 'rustify' next to 'oxidate'... no offense Tormentor, I'm just quirky that way. Lol.

Why not call the unupgraded version "oxidize" instead of rustify?
I find rustify is simpler to understand and so it
might makes more sense to the general public
maybe thats why rustify was used.

Rustify is quite an card idea related to what it does
instead of just making a card effect and slapping a random name on it.

Although, i think Rustify could be buffed a little bit.
As when we put a card into our deck or play a card, we would
expect it to do more than just weak counter to another card.

If the inactive weapon is animated, does it still have its effect?
My idealized elements cycle:
Water -> Fire -> Air -> Earth -> Lightning -> Metal -> Light -> Darkness -> Wood -> Water

I just don't see why the unupped card would be used due to steal and deflagration. They're cheaper and more powerful. But for oxidate can the skill be used more than once?
