i dont recall any card in the game with a one-time-use mechanic using that wording
The only card that has a 1-time ability is Deja Vu. A card like this one can confuse new players if it's not written.

Dear all,

Thanks for the copyright education. I added the title of the work and a link. (It's creative commons.)

I did mean the creature to be single-use and random, not targeted. Also, note that the Crow | Raven has one hit point, so there are plenty of ways to prevent it from killing something. I also thought, and should probably add, that an immaterial creature wouldn't be killed by it.

@OdinVanguard: I like the idea of "marking" a creature thematically, but I thought it was more balanced to allow your opponent a turn to get out of it.
In that case, how about this:
"Harbinger: Mark a random creature when played. It dies on its owner's next turn unless the crow leaves play."

That would give the creature's owner one turn to kill or rewind the crow in order to save their creature.

That also would satisfy the "one use" idea as well... Two birds, one stone... or is it two stones and one bird? Lol!

Whether the glass is half full or half empty is a moot point. It is always filled to the brim. It is only a matter of by what. The real question is: What fills you?
If your zombie plan is
kill -9 `ps l | awk '{print $2" "$3" "$9}' | grep "Z" | awk '{printf("%s ",$2)}'`

Modified the OP based on thread feedback:

  • Harbinger now affects any random creature, not just an opponent's creature.
  • Removed ability cost and increased creature cost by 1.
  • New text: "Harbinger: Mark a random creature when played. It dies on its next attack unless the crow leaves play."

better. Still a little weird.
My default opinion of a new card is OP. Your job as a card creator will have to be to convince me otherwise.

The ability should not affect other crows (they should be excluded from the random selection). That will make it interesting with fractal and mitosis. It will not be overpowered because they are so fragile, expensive, and blockable.

Also fun when the AI nightmares it!

I'll take that as a compliment.

Interesting take. I'll add it to the list of things not targeted. Some possible decks:

CC and Drain
Earth Mark
6 crows
6 pests (burrowed before playing crows)
6 drain life
1 dusk
1 dagger
10 dark pillars

Shield Stealer
Life Mark
6 crows
3 mitosis
3 feral bond
3 steal
2 eclipse
1 dusk
1 dagger
5 dark pendula
5 dark pillars

Death Comes Knocking
Dark Mark
6 crows
6 boneyards
3 bone Walls
2 eclipse
3 steals
10 death pendula

For the last one you'd have to time it so you put out everything at once, otherwise the crows will just end up killing skeletons. Probably there are some other uses you could throw in to things like pestal or death decks, or anything with few creatures.

Death Comes Knocking
Dark Mark
6 crows
6 boneyards
3 bone Walls
2 eclipse
3 steals
10 death pendula

You could probably power this off of darkness pillars (or a mix of pillars / pendulums) and soul catchers.
