"gains" with + seems to be standard.

The word "gains" as it is used in EtG simply refers to a change in stats.  It's escaping me at the moment, but I seem to remember a card in which the target creature "gains -1/-1".  It's just for consistency and clarity, nothing more.

Hm. Might be interesting with Mito-SoR.

I remember that, when making Pride (something with an ability similar to the Old), I shied away from an increase based on something like cost (similar to the current version) because it would be a pseudo-Chimera (a single big creature) that works with Twin Universe.
Of course, my knowledge of the meta back then was pretty sparse, so I dunno.
