I don't like the way the upkeep works with this card, because if I understand correctly, it will just generate quanta for your opponent and can destroy card indefinitely...

Yes you understood it correctly. How is it different than infection that also affects permanents?

I just don't think the upkeep justifies the power of it, especially since you can play it with no quanta requirements whatsoever. I could be wrong, but especially in decks that use mark splashing, just being able to play something like this at the start of the game is a bit off...

I'm not saying the idea is bad, but perhaps there can be some other requirement for playing Void cards rather than just giving quanta to your opponent?

Maybe you need a certain amount of quanta to be able to play them, but they are still free?

Maybe you need a certain amount of quanta to be able to play them, but they are still free? That would require extra space on the card text and I think it would be tricky to code.

Also OT is correct here, Thorn Carparace is more power than this since it can actually kill the creature much more easiler while this may not if you keep playing non-pillar/pendulum Void cards.

The ability only activates every other attack, like Devourer.

Addition: Every 1st and 3rd attack. Devourer does not drain on the 5th adrenaline'd "attack".

BTW, the reason I don't want an activation cost for this is that I don't want to have an ability that has a chance of failure even after you pay the price.

The Void series is by far one of my favorite series on this site. And cards like this are one of the reasons why. Although, I found a potentially exploitable strategy.

Null Rift + Animate Weapon + Mitosis

Given the "cost" of Null Rift, this would lead to a very powerful deck destruction strategy. Sure, it would allow your opponent to gain MASSIVE amounts of quanta, but what good is it with no cards to spend it with?

However, I can't be sure, as there's no real way to test this out.

Mitosis does not work on animated weapon, so that issue is fine.
