Just a thought...
If Mindgate is 5/4 to play, and costs 2 to pretty much give you a random card, shouldn't this be comparable in terms of cost to play? You are guaranteed the element of your choice, and the card you choose to discard is most likely of low value to you in the current situation.

My intuition is that it is too expensive as is. It is true that the card you are discarding is probably of low value (e.g. it is probably a second mind bauble
), but the card you get is probably also of low value. The bottom line is that you can't get card advantage with this, and you can with mindgate.
I would also suggest that the effect should be immediate. I don't see any reason to make the player wait until next turn. They already waited a turn to use the ability.
I assume that you have a chance of getting a pillar/pendulum (like SoSe). That would make it a little useful against nightmare.
...Two conflicting opinions... Maybe a poll is in order?
-The point about card advantage is one of my two reasons for making it this cheap to play. The other being that it will be more useful early game when a player is trying to compensate for a bad draw.
-I can drop the skill cost a little if people think it should be lower. I thought any lower would be too cheap myself...
On the other hand, I don't want it to overshadow mind gate too much.
-I don't mind dropping the delayed gratification too much either. It was meant as a balancing mechanism to justify a low cost... Although in a way I kind of like the added risk of losing two cards if a shrewd opponent times a steal or deflag cleverly.
-Yes, pillars are included. It basically just picks a card of the chosen element out of a hat (basically just like SoSe but limited to a particular element based on discard choice)
I think the key difference is that this card is meant more as a means to recycle cards you don't need, whereas mindgate is to gain new ones (same with SoSE)
