I am aware that mercury is a metal that is liquid at room temperature. There are many other things that may also have that arguments like that (e.g. Iodine or Bromine), and I don't exactly see how its significance in alchemy is relevant, but I see your point with mercurial.

Alchemy is the ability to change elements into other elements.  Look at its reaction to Flooding / Nightfall.
This thing seemed dead inside. It seemed like an automaton, trying to act like as if it was alive. The effect was unsettling.

I have already decided to increase the cost tremendously and nerf the ability.  Now, we need to decide whether or not having it set on a charge system (where you pay with poison counters) is balanced.

This card basically nullifies every negative effect casted on it, and benefits from every positive effect -  actually it benefits even from negative effects. That's why it is considered OP, and not because of it's cost. And since mechanics of this card are specifical - it's basically immune to everything - what happens when sundial is played, does it attack by the argument that it has addapted to different time lapse? It becomes airborne vs Wings, does it become momentumed vs Phase Shield? Can it dodge RT? Is there any reliable counter to it?

That new mechanics proposed definitely look more reasonable. Since most of them involve taking an initial hit before adapting it doesn't run the risk of having "hard" immunity to everything. I really like this version now.
Also, it would be cool if its attack alternated sign (flip between positive and negative) whenever shard of sacrifice buff is in play.
Whether the glass is half full or half empty is a moot point. It is always filled to the brim. It is only a matter of by what. The real question is: What fills you?

I wasn't sure what to do with shards but it might be best to have them simply change the alignment at end of turn.
And yes, my adaptations were designed to soft counter everything, hardcounter nothing.

Hitting it with a bolt or other damage will reduce it to 0 hp... It would then die on its next attack / turn if not healed.
... lightening + quint (stops heals) works for unupped.
Its not unkillable, but will definitely be one tough cookie.
Whether the glass is half full or half empty is a moot point. It is always filled to the brim. It is only a matter of by what. The real question is: What fills you?
