This quanta is not random! In the notes it says that the quanta generated matches your mark.
Ah! I misread it then. I thought only quanta from "Crumble" matched the mark.

In that case, you are right that the upgraded version's production should probably be dropped to 1 per turn.

Although, he does note that a deck is limited to 6 of these per deck.

Also, it is probably a good idea to let players know that the quanta matches their mark. Otherwise most would probably assume it to be random.

One other amusing option to balance the upgraded version would be something like:
"Generates 2 quanta per turn.
Quanta type matches mark.
May crumble (self-destruct).
Crumble: Generate 6 quanta"

In other words, the tower may crumble at random (maybe something like 20% to 50% chance each turn).

Ammended the card, now produces random quanta per turn, and states that Upped can use Crumble when played. Keep the comments coming. And if you want to make art for this, feel free.

Background balance:
Immolation + Sacrifice (2 cards) = 5 :fire|7 :fire + 1 quanta of each type = 5 :fire|7 :fire + 1 Nova
Immolation + Sacrifice - Nova (1 card) = 5 :fire|7 :fire

Quantum Pillar produces 3 :rainbow per turn

Cards with multiple options cost more or are weaker (all else equal) than cards with one option

Conclusion: Both Pillar and Sacrifice uses of Crumbling Pillar need to be weaker than their counterparts but need to be useful in their own right. Thus the pillar usage of the Crumbling Pillar (unupped) can be buffed to 2 :rainbow per turn and the change from unupped to upped needs to be made smaller. Do not reduce the activation cost, increase the quanta provided and allow first turn activation as an upgrade bonus. That is too much of an increase from the unupped version.

be sure to note the annoyingness with which these could allow a bunch more decks to use like miracles for example. could easily get off two even 3 sky blitzes with enough of these in play in 1 turn.

It adds a lot of new options in deck building, but it would be a real metachanger and so will need a lot of testing. (independent of balancing it)
My default opinion of a new card is OP. Your job as a card creator will have to be to convince me otherwise.

I definitely agree with that. Its often hard to know just how much a card will impact the game until it starts showing up in decks.

Until its tested, we won't know for sure... But it needs to get that point first.

I think that the new version should be fairly well balanced, now that the pillar use produces  :rainbow instead of mark quanta.

Given that the crumble will produce mark specific quanta, I think this card will fill a new and useful niche without being OP relative to quantum and standard towers.

I like it.

This card is very hard for me to figure out if it's OP.
Like is a spark fractal deck OP with this? destroy two of these and get off a second fractal in 1 turn? Its certainly sounds pretty good.

But at least it'd be an important useful card and not some wimpy boring addition to the game.

If it makes any difference, Zanz's strategy tends to be to err toward the OP side then scale back power in future patches....
Take shards, for example... although I think the nerfings may have swung some of them a little too much to the UP side in some cases... but I'm tangenting now.
