The fact that it generates a Nova means that it's ability is relevant in Rainbows. If it's ability is unused, then an Archangel it's better. So, you must sacrifice: 5 attack, 7/6 quanta to generate 12/24 quanta. Isn't better to take another Nova/SNova in the deck? (if you already have 6, then i think a quantum pillar is better because the combo is long, and you need quanta fast). If you use the ability only when the creature is going to die and you know it, the thing becomes too situational.
So, my suggestion are:
1)Make it a passive ability, so if it dies it automatically become a Nova/SNova
2)Decrease the cost from 5/4 to 4/3 and lower stats by 1 (so you can play this and Sancutary)

Well looks at the upside, this has no singularity affect so technically, you can use 3 nova's at once with no penalty.

Uhm, you can, yes, but at the moment you sacrifice Luminescent Star, you should have 5 :light + 2 :darkness, and at the moment you have 5 light quanta you shouldn't need a 1 quanta for each element losing 5 atk. The upped one is more balanced IMO, because a SNova >> Nova.

Anyway, I feel that the unupped is UP; maybe decreasing the cost of ability by 1 to make it a little faster?

There is no need to sacrifice it-- it's a decent attacker by itself. Using the skill (for decks that will use the skill) can either be done immediately or held just in case.

This is interesting...

probably op.
My default opinion of a new card is OP. Your job as a card creator will have to be to convince me otherwise.
Happy to help with questions regarding upped PvP
