The card's ability has been rather specific.
"next spell card"
Psion is a creature card that deals spell damage.
Conversely, SoI/Chimera, being a spell, would also be consumed, yes?
As for the card...
The fact it can counter spells so easily actually disturbs me slightly. I would like it if the consume effect only lasted a turn, so you had to pay upkeep.
That was actually my original intent, for almost exactly the same reasoning but upon thinking about it more closely I eventually realized that having it reset each turn actually makes it more effective as a spell counter.
The reason is that if it wears off at the start of your turn each time, then you are free to cast any spells you want without them getting absorbed, then use this ability to lockdown your opponent's spell casting.
With a continuous effect, you will have to waste a spell card yourself in order to cast a spell, so there is a true double edge to the effect.
But it could work either way I suppose.
