How bout the enemy gets -1/-1 and friendly +1/+1 for the upped version or maybe 0/-2 and +2/0?

Definitely 0|+1 friendly and -1|0 enemy.

Friendly: "our land is beautiful!  Look at the precious, fragile life it has produced.  Let us be strong and guard that life."  *shrugs off a Firestorm*

Enemy: "ooh, pretty flower!  Here, flower flower!  I'm gonna getcha..."  *strikes opponent clumsily due to distraction*

Your Creatures have soft protection for 5 turn and you prevent 45 damage.
4 :life|3 :life would be an appropriate cost.

Given that setup for this card, it would have some interesting synergy with Thorn Carapace - most creatures die within five turns to the poison, so they wouldn't get a chance to reset.

I am in favor of making it only three turns, that's 6 damage per enemy creature prevented.  If he has a full field, you prevent 138.

the timing of an effect can be in the notes rather than in the card text.

Well usually people would like to know how many turns it has before it dissapears, like Sundials or Phase Shields.
