They're safe before you pass the turn. But being unsafe is kinda the point - this sort of card can really hurt one-trick-pony decks which rely on building a single combo in-hand before unleashing it at once (as I forsee decks that use Quintessence becoming).

Hand and deck should be safe. There's absolutely no defense against a card that targets them. It's also more or less random, which makes winning or losing sometimes just luck, something that sort of eliminates the point of having a strategy.

It would MAYBE be ok if the opponent chose which card to discard (much like having too large a hand), but even then it's probably a very bad idea.

This is just my opinion on the matter though.

well.......it all depends on what zanz wants the game to be played like. for example, if this card (or cards like it) are added to the game then you would have to think more about wether its better to use your card this turn or risk your opponent destroying it. however the way that the game is now, the focus of strategy is when to play the card in the sense of how badly it would hurt your opponent.
