This totem feels stronger than its counterpart - who can say 'no' to massive denial decks (quicksand for pillars, steal and explosion for permanents, AND black hole for quanta generation of rainbows) and immense creature control (Otyughs/Pharoh->Scarabs eating everything, Eternity for anti-deck out, Fire Shield against invulnerable creatures), while having PA for protecting your permanents/weapons (especially hourglasses). Darkness and Earth are almost coupled up with the other elements in such a way that... I can't imagine how powerful it'll become. >.>

...on the bizarre chance that you have both this card and the 'Faces East Totem/Dawn' Totem, would they effectively cancel each other out?

Problem with all the power in denial is that you have no Aether for Quints, Phase Shields, No Light for Miracle, or Life for Feral Bond. Its a trade off.

In theory they do cancel each other but actual deployment and use in the engine will generate some lopsided results as the last totem to talk will come out on top.

With the testing I have done, this is the cheapest the Totem can be to deploy.
