I think both unupped and upped should kill both unupped and upped and be differentiated only by cost.  Maybe make the cost difference steeper?

What happens if one of the creatures in the species is immortal but you target a non-immaterial but otherwise identical creature?
Also, fractal already has counters like RoF and flooding

Edit: And thunderstorm, plague, and quantum denial because it's an expensive spell

when was the last time you saw a non-gimmicky deck with flooding?
I do agree that there are plenty of counters to fractal though.

How would this deck work with Phoenixes? Could you target Ash and have it affect Phoenixes?
