So I have been thinking, there seems to be a lot of ways to take/destroy permanents (Steal, Deflag/Explode, Pulverizer, random creature mutations with Destroy ability, and now the new Butterfly Effect), but only one way to protect them (Enchant/Protect Artifact). As a result, most decks have some way of messing with permanents, but the only way to protect permanents is to make sure you incorporate Enchant/Protect Artifact into your deck (with some way of generating earth quantum). I feel this is a little unfair to mono decks.
I have been thinking of ways to balance this and have come up with a few different approaches.
The first is simply making the upgraded Protect Artifact use any random quantum.
-OR-
A new Other card that functions like Enchant/Protect Artifact, but uses 8 random quantum as its cost. This would give all decks access to permanent protection, but Enchant/Protect Artifact wouldn't be completely devalued since the cost is much higher on the new card.
-OR-
A new Other card that is a creature, uses random quantum to play, and while it is alive no permanents can be destroyed or stolen (maybe call it Sentry or something). It would have to be reasonably kill-able at all times, so not targetable for buffs, but not immaterial either; it would have to be vunerable to damage but impossible to heal. I'm not sure if that is possible or not, but my fear is that it would be overpowered otherwise. I also don't think it should have any offense, so maybe something like 0/6.
This is my first post, so I guess I should also say hi to everyone. I don't really frequent the forums, but I have been playing for a while and have been growing concerned about this issue. Sorry if this has already been suggested!
