I don't think you get it. It's just weird for shields to have ACTIVATED ability. But than again, with a nice picture, it might get good.
Okay. I don't understand your reasoning, you think its okay if a weapon have a activated offensive ability but shields shouldn't have a defensive activated ability just because its a shield?

Reads nicer - people don't necessarily need to know that it is (1d4)-1.

Gamble: :entropy :entropy Target creature gains a random bonus or penalty to offence.

Again, reads nicer. If people are completely anal about it, they can go to the wiki and find out the exact values. See adrenaline.

I like this idea.

As for shields having abilities being weird - it's only weird because Zanz hasn't added any activated abilities to shields so far. If he'd already done so then this would seem perfectly normal to you.
