In the time it takes for me to actually get a golden dragon this way, I could just hardcast it and save time and vulnerability.

Reduce the cost drastically or make it immortal.
.Maybe even both.

Edit by update: Much better.
Now tell me why the thing costs :time to activate and not :light.
