ELEMENT:

ABILITY:
Shield: Physical Damage is reduced by 1. Attacking creatures have a 30% to be Lobotimised

NOTES:
Yes I know Lobotimise is a :aether ability but despair is more :darkness I thought (the opposite of Hope)
SERIES:
Not in a series Yet
So yeah an interesting idea, maybe it doesn't belong in :darkness witht this ability but I like it there as it is the opposite to Hope which is :light

Really like the idea.

I think it is a little up though. Thorn Carapace at least kills creatures and at a much higher rate (75%).

I think you need to up the percentage (at least 75% maybe even 100%?) or add in some attack blocking (maybe blocks 1 attack and has 30% chance of lobotomy?)

Too expensive for only 30%.  Either lower the cost or up the percentage.

I like that it is a :darkness counter to :light 's Hope shield.

Upped version is kind of useless then, why not just increase the percentage or decrease the cost? The upgrades of hope and thorn carapace are useless as well...

OK so maybe I got the % wrong. I didn't want it to lean to far to OP but I can see your point.

A few ways to fix this:

 1. Both card have the % raised to 50-75% thus giving them more power.
 2. Raise the unupgraded to 60% and the Upgraded to 80%.
 3. Make the unupgraded 75% and the upgrade 100%.

Ok so these are just ideas. To look at cost. Option 1 would stay the same cost as they are now as well as option 2 but option 3 would see the upgrade raise by 1 :darkness to play.

Yes Melancholy is a good idea but I wanted the opposite to Hope which has both shields as Hope also Melancholy isn't quite as strong a word as Despair.

Thanks

not really morning star. Your deck would have to revolve around abilities and not attacking for this to hurt you.

Any deck with a dragon or two or even a lava golem is still going to be doing a lot of damage. Basically this shield would win hard against decks built around abilities and lose to decks built around attack (like rushes)

Yes that is why I went with 30%. I know some would say it should be higher and I am trying to start that discussion but if it became too high it would be an ultimate beat down card as it effects even immortal creatures.

My take on the percentages is now the below:

 1. The unupgraded version will stay at 30%
 2. The upped version will now become 40% with the 1 damage reduction. THis way if a creatures only has 1 attack it keeps it's ability (ie Otyugh doesn't get effected until he has eaten twice.) Also a raise in cost by 1.

These are powerful cards in the same way that Hope is powerful. The difference is this is not a damge reduction card so it isn't by itself a game winner it just shuts down some of the abilities in a deck.

So against this card you would play Dragons and other heavy hitters anyway.

Thanks

Maybe the percentage should be dependent on creatures, kind of like hope is dependent on creatures.

Like it does 10% + N/2 % where N is the number of darkness creatures.

Sorry I started discussion points on the percentage draw and that was one of them. My apoligies. The original card is still 30% which isn't much thus the confusion and the discussion.

I like the idea of 10 +N/2 % in some ways but I think that would provide a very low % even with fractal pests (The highest you could go on this is 31% which means it may as well stay as it is.

Maybe if it is 2% per creature that could work. Thus using the Hope mechanic of :light emitting creatures. Would you do it with :death and :darkness ?

Thus you could possibly have up to 56% chance of doing this but most likely not get that high.

Personally I still want to stay at 30%

Thanks

This has the potential to be brutal against any deck that depends on creature abilities.  Lobo can remove ONE skill for 4 :aether upped, while this costs only 7 :darkness and wipes the whole field clean.

I don't know how to balance this card better, but it's a bit... hard to tell right now if it's even balanced as is.  It won't remove Momentum, but it's a way to deal with the pesky quinty oty.

Personally, I see little point in upgrading this shield.  There are TONS of good 1|X critters out there with abilities:

Parasite
Virus/Retrovirus
burrowed Antlion
Gnome Gemfinder
Lycanthrope/Werewolf
Red Nymph/Fire Nymph
Armagio
Amber Nymph/Gravity Nymph (!!)
Rustler/Leaf Dragon
Ray of Light
Guardian Angel
Deja Vu
Arctic Squid/Arctic Octopus
Nymph Queen/Water Nymph

That's substantial.  Can Malignant Cell be lobotomized?

Maybe I should change them around and have the unupped be the physical damage one and the upped the take all prisoners version.

I can see where you are coming from and that is why I would prefer to stay with the 30% at least then it is only a 1 in 3 chance of being loboed.

As to Malignant cell I would assume it is effected by this but am not sure.

Thanks
