I traced the source of the rule to somewhere around this post:
But this was said in the original post
Q:
What does "The card must be able to generate or interact with 2 quantum pools." limit against?
A:
Activated abilities like " : Web " don't count towards this requirement, but something like " 0 :Drain to produce ." or "Generates and " would. Be creative!
So I don't think active ability don't count as duality, but I was just wondering if targeting the opponent's quanta could be counted as interacting with 2 quantum pools
and then I double checked the OP - it turns out I wrote this:
Qualifications:
Card must be balanced, have format and art.The card must be able to generate or interact with 2 quantum pools - 1 of it's own element, and 1 of another element.
The "same time" rule was something I think was decided when we were discussing that Pest would/wouldn't count - I think the idea was there that it had 2 different abilities interacting with a different pool at a time (so like on your turn you trigger burrow, and then at the end of the turn you drain to produce
), so I said the following:
Rustler counts since it's using to produce - it's using 1 ability to interact with 2 quantum pools at the same time.
Pest doesn't count with the current rules because it's use/drain of quantum isn't in 1 ability - Burrow and draining quantum are two different abilities. If it was something like " : Burrow and generate .", it could work.
So to summarize, the way I interpreted it, 1 ability has to do something to two elemental quantum pools.
So unless I misunderstood, that rule has always been there - it just needed to be clarified. ^^;
Round 1's rule was something different entirely - it was to make sure the card generated specific quantum of X and Y.
Sorry if I caused confusion.
