For rating Armagio's art, I really want to see a close-up of Armagio's head. I mean seriously, did anyone ever make out how its head looks like?
This is the most high-res picture you can get from the original spore art (the upgraded is simply a different view and stance of the creature which you can only recreate ingame). It seems it has some sort of a medieval helmet on.. and other interesting parts for its body. But lasers..? I'd expect some elemental synergy in that concept.
Thematic wise, upped it shares its HP with Massive Dragon (which has been vrt'd to get a feel of its mass) while unupgraded it still retains a mighty 25, while Colossal Dragon has a much lower value - and it's still considered colossal. That suggests that Armagio is something *really* big in general. Sadly, that still makes it somewhat puny as there are so many high damage creatures, so in a way it fails its purpose. Damage reduction is the most logical approach for a creature whose sole purpose is redirecting and to withstand heaps of attacks.
For its attack power, consider that a single Photon deals 1 damage. From design perspective, it's probably there to make it vulnerable to various shield effects (the same reason for the upped gaining +1 ATK against "some" upped shields).
I'd give it a 5/5 for concept and thematic -as it would be the staple creature for Gravity if there wouldn't be such a powerful Otyugh, and it was one of the earliest creatures made and the pace of the game became much faster since. Acceleration/Overdrive remedied that with a different approach to high HP values, but its defensive capabilities have been long overshadowed.
DR for Armagio!
