Vacuum Shield/Vortex Shield (Entry for Shield Competition) https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=2715.msg22616#msg22616

Anyone that wants to make the card for me, I'd appreciate it. I don't have time to learn how since I'm in school.

Vacuum Shield
Cost: 12 Darkness
Description: Discard a card from your hand to remove one card from play.
The ability cost is free, you're giving up a card instead of quanta to activate it.

Upgraded:
Vortex Shield
Cost: 10 Darkness
Description: Discard a card from your hand to remove one card from play.

Basically, when you activate the card's effect you can discard a card from your hand and then remove any targetable card from play. The shield does not protect against damage. It's a high cost card because the ability is that great. I'm tempted to make the ability usable multiple times per turn... if yall think that's a good idea it could be added.

Anyway, thanks in advance to the person that creates the card for me. You can do an easy google image search for "vortex" and get a picture to use; I don't care what it looks like.

Comments/suggestions are welcome.

Sounds very Op. I wouldn't like this card if it came into the game. A whole deck could be centered around this card and just pack pathetic cards to use a fodder.

It could be easily countered. And by "packing pathetic cards" you lose power in your deck. It's really just a card that is instant kill/destroy. It's also a fair trade because it's a card for a card. I would say it's very balanced. Besides, other card games have similar cards that let you discard a card to get rid of an opponent's or negate an effect.

Originally I thought about making it so both players could activate the effect of the card on their turn regardless of who had the shield up. I wasn't sure if that would be possible though (without changing game mechanics). That would definitely make it more balanced though.

With the only weakness being immaterial creatures, I would expect to see 60-card decks that pack tons of precognition, sundial and hourglasses being used alongside this. Probably also some devourers, and you have a fairly nice quantum denial deck. Bear in mind that if you can toss your own cards to destroy your opponents', then you essentially reduce your opponents' decks by their difference in size.

Being quite so expensive might limit its uses to Dark/Time or other duo combinations at the most, though. I'd have to actually see decks with this in to know how balanced it would be.

So... why is this a shield?

Also, I don't like the fact that you can remove anything instantly, but... for that cost it may be fine.

Eternity, Deja Vu, This, Devourers... yeah, sounds good.

Yeah, what Yoyo said. Also, Your cards cost 12/10 quanta; the competition states that your shields must cost no more than 8 quanta. (Yeah, I actually read the rules.)

Very overpowered.

And what if we go with what I originally intended? Both players can use the ability? And I don't remember seeing that rule icy (I read it too), but originally they cards were 8/7. I raised them because I would like to see more high cost cards.

WAAY OP, and more importantly there's absolutely nothing shield-like about this card.
If something happens and you think it deserves my attention, feel free to PM me. Other than that, I'm probably here if you want to shoot the breeze.
