Okay, well, instead of making this card, go make one that works for Aether if it's that big of a deal.

You could say that it deals 8N damage, with N being the amount of shards there are in the opponents fielld.

try a hammer. no one has a hammer :D

Ok but this card is UP and aether has lighting... that 5 damage, so this is a lightning bolt and a worse version because it can be stopped!

If this was a permanent that dealt 5 damage to the opponent every round, I would use it.  If it did damage dependent on the opponents permanents and/or shards that would be useful also.
Just my opinion.

Why Cry, everything I have said is true.

Why do you want to particularly attack the SoG? What is your idea you want to develop into a card? Is it a shard that is corrupted that you want to make? Is it something else. Your idea is just shown to us as a card with no background idea and a weak mechanic there is not much more we can do with just that.
I agree with Kael. In this circumstance (as much as I'd love to see a new 'shard'/other card mechanic), this card is just too situational for the entire game. If it was something other than 'destroy this card and remove the HP bonus gained from it' for a one time cost that's free, it would be much more innovative and give incentive for players to use it.

I PERSONALLY do not use shards in my deck (even though I could upgrade one now and start using some). You may hate them when facing AI5 or false gods or other players, but they're no better or worse than healing effects gained from spell cards (Improved Miracle anyone?) or other permanents (multiple Feral bonds). Healing can be countered in better ways, and usually through more direct (creatures, spells, etc.) or indirect (destroying/stealing healing effects, poisons, quanta denial, etc.) ways.

Again, too specific of a circumstance to use compared to the other shards. The graphic in question, though, was a nice touch (or at least the black shard + fog effect was pretty cool). Just being honest.  :-\

Ok so just so I can chip in a bit.

For the card I can see that being too situational is not a good thing and believe that although there are advantages to destroying SOG's the fact is not many people use them.

As to what I think could be done:

How about you change the mechanic slightly to the following:

Black Shard
Cost: 3 any
Type: Spell
Effect: When played destroy Target Permanent and inflict 5 damage on the Opposition Player.

Ok so now we have a card that does what you want but isn't hampered by being useless if the opponent doesn't play a SoG.

Thanks

Scyther

So, it's a more flexible Explosion that also does damage? No thanks.
Both Heal and Stone Skin have some advantage over SoD (however small); that shard would be strictly better than Explosion in all non-fire decks, and might be preferable even in fire decks.
