hmmm... sounds more like an entropy weapon than darkness, don't you think?
it's based on the Devourer, which steals a random quantum each turn

This should be dark. I don't see some connection between this and entropy, and dark is about sneeky things. This card can "sneekily" (sort of) dry up your quanta pool

3 :darkness multi-cast would be fine.

This is not very effective against rainbows 'cuz rainbows use QP(/QT, same below). You need 9 :darkness each turn to nullify the quanta produced by 1 QP. And rainbow typically have >10QP, so you need 90 :darkness/turn to counter it, which is impossible.
Just because a deck runs 10-20 pillars/towers, doesn't mean the have them all out by turn 10. Also, QP/T generate random quanta, which means you can siphon small amounts and still possibly drain one or two pools. You don't have to drain all pools to keep rainbow from using certain cards.

I relate it to entropy because it randomly destroys a quanta owned by your opponent.

So do Devourers, arguably. Additionally, :air and :darkness 's percentage shields all have elements of luck to them, but they're not of Entropy type. Mind Spike is fine as it is with either a 2 :darkness or 3 :darkness ability cost.

Anyways, using this against a rainbow requires a high quanta production ratio.

Exactly. That's why you use this against mono-decks. Amass 100 quanta or so, then use a couple of Drain Lifes and this. It completely disarms the opponent.

Tell you what, I'll make the unupgraded cost three, and upgraded cost two.  That's balanced.

The cost is still low. Mono dark can build quanta quickly enough to fully deny the opponent. Make it 3 :darkness and destroy 1 random for each 10 :darkness you own. 1 turn 1 cast of course
I'd make it 1 random for every 10 you own passive (no cast cost). Synergizes well (but not too well) with devourers, and parallels fahrenheit.
At least this makes more denial possible without needing fractal.

i don't really like the idea of upgrading the quantum denial for darkness.  i already dislike playing against fractal devourers.

i like the art for the weapon though.
