You might make it an Aether shield that has a 10% or so chance to turn attacking creatures into Sparks.

Same mechanic, yet different element of attack.

And why would anyone use a shield like that?  Same mechanic for 1 turn.  No one will use a shield that only has DR for 1 turn at a time.  The point of this shield is to use their creatures against them.  If they don't have fire quanta, then they can't rebirth the phoenixes.  Also, people spamming phoenixes does not help this shield in any way.  Now, if people spam phoenixes and they get killed, it helps this shield.  But if the have phoenixes, they have the fire quanta to use rebirth and reduce the DR of the shield.

After talking in chat with SPK (thats DK, look in his sig), I have decided to delete this shield and make a new one for fire.  That will go in a new topic.  So, just disregard this thread now.

The new cards zanz brings to the game often plug balancing issues, and a new fire shield isn't really gonna solve anything.

But with that in mind I kinda like the idea for this card.  As others have noted it's very OP.  I could see it as either
    a shield that has a chance to turn attacking creatures to ash (maybe certain types of creatures, airborne creatures, upgraded creatures, low cost creatures, etc., although this isn't exactly a new mechanic)
or a shield that blocks 1+ number of ashes in play/3[/list]For the record a shield that reduces damage by fire quanta/4 is crazy overpowered.  It would have to be fire quanta/a much higher number, and then it'd be impossible to balance and would really only serve to buff fire stall, which is silly.
